Flume replacement for CP?

Flumes generally can be big hits. There is of course Splash Mountain (though that's not a fair comparison). Timber Mountain Log Ride and the flume at SFFT also draw good crowds, but those are also rather well-themed.

But, even the cheesy flume at BGW generates big lines on a hot day, and when the patrons at MiA aren't in the water park, they are often waiting for the flume. These rides *can* draw well, and White Water Landing usually did in the middle of a hot summer's day---even later in its life.

But I would also bet that most of the GP doesn't even know WWL has been removed.

If CP announces a new one, I think the general reaction would be "ANOTHER ONE?? WHY????"

Hopefully Cedar Point puts in a good one this time. A good example is Ripsaw falls at Islands of Adventure. WWL was a lame excuse for a water ride.
I would think if CP was going to put in another flume it would have to be heavily themed in some way. My thinking is something like Journey to Atlantis @ Sea World Orlando. On that you get your dark ride, water ride, and coaster all in one shot, plus it's done in incredible fashion.

I don't think they will build another water ride though, they still have two major soakers, and this is "America's Roller Coast"...it's known for it's coasters! Which it will have been 4 years since TTD was built by the time we reach the '07 season. IMO, that's overdue for CP.

I'm pretty sure regular yearly guests known as the "General Public" will take notice to the log ride missing.

That was the only water ride that didn't guarantee you a complete soaking. There's a fine-line that people want for cooling off. You MAY get lucky on the Canyon ride, and somehow the tides of the turns will only get you a few splashes or a wet back, but you will get soaked on Snake River no matter what.

White Water Landing was just a slight cool-down ride which is what makes it a staple at parks. You get a little splashed, you're cooled off a little, but not completely drenched where you're wetting each & every seat you sit on, on the dry rides for the next 2hrs!!

If it does make a return, I doubt it'll be themed to anything specific, but I'm sure it'll be state-of-the-art, and have some nice effects (misting tunnel? double-dip drop?) that'll set it apart from the rest of the pack.

OK, let's see, the last time CP themed anything (Other than the kid's area's) that I can think of it was Disaster Transport, and we know how well that turned out. I remember back in WWL's first year waiting not only through ALL those switchbacks, but the line started around the corner by the CP&LE station! Of course, that was before TC or SRF had been built. I only had to go through one switchback lane one time in the last two years, so I'd say ridership was low.

As for replacing WWL with another flume ride, it's not unprecidented at CP. Remember what used to be on that site prior to WWL? Shoot-the-Rapids!

I'm not saying I think CP will do that again, I HIGHLY doubt it. I can say with certainty though that I have NO clue as to what they ARE going to put there other than it MIGHT be something called Maverick. I just have to get used to the fact that I'm gonna have to wait a few months to find out, I'll try not to lose sleep over it though! :)

Dollywood's Daredevil Falls is a newer version of a flume ride. It seats two across rather than tandem style, so your flume is a little wider. You barely get wet on it however. You mostly get misted. Also, Dollywood removed their old-traditional-flume before the 2005 season. Thank God that Dollywood still has Mountain Slidewinder - the best water ride ever!

Face it, as much as we enjoy them, and especially reminiscing about them, they're the dinosaurs of amusement rides and more importantly they all are situated with huge footprints and tend to be high maintenance. More and more of the bigger parks will be replacing them with more up-to-date attractions. And what I'm noticing is that parks are putting more places to cool down in the middle of the park, such as misters, shading, etc.

Well, I think parks are missing something when they do not have a log flume. They are wonderful rides and I think CP is lacking without one. They are great family attractions and I will miss WWL greatly.

I see a lot of people concerned about getting wet. All you have to do is bring a change of clothes and a towel with you to the park and stash them in the lockers. We do it on all major park trips. If you get soaked and it makes you miserable later, simply grab the change out of the locker and change and then you are dry again. We do it all the time and it works great. A little planning goes a long way! ;)

CP was able to market Snake River Falls amongst a streak of new giant coasters every couple of years. Why can't they do it again with a log flume?

I, too, would not be surprised to see a new flume reappear in that area along with other new attractions.
I am sad to see it go. It was the first ride of any kind I have ever rode but that aside. It was a walk on and the water ruined the rest of your day. I wouldn't mind seeing CP build a family coaster with water elements like a logflume.

If CP is looking to build a new flume ride, might I suggest they take the best of Dudley's and Buffalo Bill's...and add in a dash of MiB!

A high-capacity, dueling, interactive flume? :)

Asking for CP to put in a flume like Dudleys is like asking for the Magic Kingdom to put in a coaster like Superman: Ride of Steel. The notion is so preposterous that you wonder if the person making the request has an understanding of the park they are talking about, or if they know there is no chance but they wish to lament that at every opportunity. However, a flume like the one at VF is not out of the question. That is one of my favorites.

"Like Dudley" was probably not the best way to phrase it....but it COULD be themed somewhat to fit into the area (you move pretty slowly on flumes for the most part, something to look at wouldn't hurt). A nice double-down could even be used instead of the "uphill portion" to good effect...

I don't anticipate CP going ALL-OUT like IoA did....but *some* more family-friendly themed attractions MIGHT not hurt when they've already decided that LOWERING admissions was a good move... ;)

If CP feels they MUST break a record for a new ride (re:flume), why not have record CAPACITY... ;)

:)

I want a flume with a helix, physics be damned!

A helix might be possible! You never know! It would be difficult, but not impossible! ;)
Didn't I hear that a flume at Space World in Japan has a flume ride with an indoor portion... with an helix?

Now, as for a park building a brand new flume, look no further than Wild Adventures. They're building a new flume this year.

Yes. Aside from Splash Mountain it was easily the best flume I've ever been on. I guess it could be considered part coaster depending on how you look at it. It's a great ride.

Its not like Cedar Point doesn't have a character license to theme around. They can do a great Peanuts themed flume and have it fit in with the park perfectly. Its not like Dudley has all that much themeing outside of the huge facade, the internals is almost all 2d scenes.

Thats what I want in that space, something that my girlfriend and I can ride when we don't feel like getting our buts whipped on one of the coasters.

I think we'll all be suprised as to what goes into "that space".
