Flatrides we will never see in the U.S.

The Taumler looks SICK!

Europe seems to have the best flat rides. You will never see something like The Taumler in the States. :(

As has been pointed out in this thread there were a couple of these rides imported back in the 1970's when ride importer Micky Hughes was bringing over anything and everything he could get his hands on. Unfortunately they were all withdrawn from service in a few years of their opening.

Taumler looks very similar to the Tagada that Pleasure Beach operated until a couple of years ago as Trauma Towers.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

Here is another crazy flat I saw last year at the Oktoberfest called Rocket. Cp should have build one of those instead of boring Windseeker. ;-)

Although I would never get on this Ride, here is a offride video

And here a Onride (with great views of the Oktoberfest)

Interesting. The ride motion seems like a more intense monster/octopus.

^^ Anyone been on one of these? Wonder how it measures up to an Octopus/Monster. Some of these flats look a lot more fun than they are. The Huss Magic at Marineland is a flat that comes to mind that's exciting to watch but kinda boring to ride.

That Rockit ride a few posts up is the stuff of nightmares for me. Just watching the youtube video made me uncomfortable.

Schwarzkopf rebuilt by Gerstlauer? Now that's a lot of pig iron.

That ride sounds like it was better before it had seats that rolled over, now you just kinda hang there.

Here's a vid. My understanding is that the Schwarzkopf rides were a bit of a pain maintenance-wise. I'm not sure if this is the exact machine that was remodeled into Aigner's Parkour- it's listed as Sound Machine and this is Kinzler's Sound Factory, but at least you can see how the ride operated.

You are aware that Gerstlauer operates out of Schwarzkopf's old plant, right? :)

Oh I'm very well aware of that was Schwarzkopf's principal facility.

Anyone think we'll see this in the U.S.?

Maybe I'm missing something, but that ride doesn't seem particularly crazy to me.

The amusement park rises bold and stark..kids are huddled on the beach in a mist

^It has really nice acceleration, which might prove hard on the mechanicals...

Personally, I doubt we'll ever see (another) Sonic Boom. That was nuts...

I bet capacity on this is really good... The ride is only about seven seconds. lol

I can't speak for the US very well, but something went seriously wrong with flatrides in the early 1990s in Germany. Probably driven by the need for sensationalism a lot of rides appeared that are most of all a total pain to ride.
Taumler is actually pretty old I remember seeing that in the early 80ies and it is especially fun since it generates contact between people. I do remember enjoying it actually.
I never heard news stories about this ride producing any injuries, but I can see how it might be risky to run it in an environment where people can get a lot of money from sueing.
But in terms of flat rides [going a little of topic here]
I think some rides are like icecream they just make people feel good. Pirate ships for example are completely underrated that way. A very simple move, but everyone comes out cheering.
Also because the two ends of the ship are 'taking turns' and the riders face each other.
But somewhere down the line things went wrong and we ended up with atrocities such as the 'Space Roller' etc. where the experience converges into a painful solitary 'ok, this hurts, when is it going to stop?'.
I'm always willing to experiment but it sometimes seems the ride designers place the spectacular look of the aparatus over the actual experience the riders are having and the e.g. the potential social component.
They somehow forget that seeing others having an experience is a little like having the experience ourselves.
What good is an octopus-type ride for example if you can't see the other riders because it moves too fast or the gondolas face the wrong way?

Check out some of the other links. There are other flat rides that my imagination could never even conjure up.

Ask not what you can do for a coaster, but what a coaster can do for you.

That's an Inferno, made by Mondial. It's also known by the name Air Wolf, or Night Fly. It's reminiscent of their popular Top Scan/Space Roller ride, but with the riders in a different orientation. I'd love to see one here in the U.S., but I understand they are extremely heavy and difficult to transport. In answer to that, they developed a smaller, lighter version with inverted seats called Diablo, or Intoxx.

I'd settle for one of those, too.

I would also like to see some of the amazing carnival rides in Europe in the United States. When I had high speed internet, I saw some really amazing looking rides. One is called "Circus" Which is a huge platform ride, that inverts in many directions. Imagine a topspin, where the platform not only rolls, it can also spin. You almost have to see it to get it. I showed it to my firends, and they just looked at it and said no way!! I would totally barf! (Not me of course, I love my spinning upside-down rides.

Another one I saw was similar to a carnival orbiter, only the cars are able to flip freely upside-down as the ride turns. The arms also lift the cars horizontal above the ride, so they can be in almost any position. I watched that video over and over, wishing there was a ride like that here so I could ride it. There is a ride that comes close though. It's called the X-perience. We had one at our local county fair, and I rode it so many times the carnival guy thought I was crazy.

But, there are tons more insane carnival rides in Europe. Look up insane carnival rides on youtube, and you will find a lot! I hate that annoying screaming guy recording. Seems to be on almost every ride there.

One thing I also noticed is how close the people are to the rides over there. I watched a video of a hymalaya, and there were kids walking right up to it, where the riders could easily reach out and slap them silly. I also saw a trabant ride that had riders standing up while riding!!
