Flat Ride Flaws?

kpjb's avatar
Well, this seems like the only one without its own topic so far, so here goes:

1) Both the Ferris Wheel and the Sky Wheel don't move when they're loading. People walk up to the lowest car, and then are apparently teleported Star Trek-style to another seat without the ride moving.

2) On the Sky Wheel, there's two huge "Sky Wheel" signs on the side of the ride. If you change the name of the ride, the signs stay the same.

3) Speaking of the Sky Wheel, why does it sound like a diesel rig idling? All the ones I've ridden on have been electric models. (This would be especially true in a park.)

4) Still don't understand why the Observation tower just sits on grass. There's no paths from the entrance and exit of the ride to the ride itself.

5) The Ferris Wheel sounds like it needs greased and a few bolts tightened. I'm surprised the "Park Inspector" didn't catch that. ;)

6) It seems like the colors aren't as vivid as in RCT2... is that just me?

Any others?

Hi

I can only say wow

TTD was built, TTD was broke, TTD is alive.

6) 256 colors vs. millions... it's just you. :)

The observation tower is fantastic. You see the peeps walk up the ramp to get into the ride and even see what position they take to look out off.

I don't quite get waht you mean about their being no path to the ride.

I've also noticed on the observation tower that the peeps will look down on the rides once they get high in the air, and look out even with the rides on the ground. Pretty cool.

Happiness is like peeing your pants. Everyone can see it, but only you can feel the warmth. Trip pics are here: http://www.pbase.com/jhbd99.

I agree with kpjb on the tower. It looks unfinished. There's no base - all the rides have a base but that one. Peeps line up in the queue, go throught the gate, walk across grass, then enter the ride.

It just 'feels' wrong.

As for the double wheel - my 'guess' is, I think they just wanted to speed things up a bit with people getting on the ride. This may be a case where too detailed can get too boring.

Ever notice on the observation tower, when it's up high, the peeps all standing there looking down... it really looks like they're urinating.

Then again, maybe that's just me, too.

So, Jeff, can you choose colors for rides besides the 15 or so offered on the main pallette, then?

Ahhh, the color choice thing is something else I was hoping to see an upgrade on.

It should be more like the standard windows color choosing palette thingy. Like No Limits uses, with the spectrum from left to right and lighter to darker being top to bottom.

Oh well, with my tastes in color shemes I guess it really doesn't matter. :)

Agreed on the color spectrum. Strangely enough, with an ocean of complaints usually around path building and camera angles which I find no problems with, it's the color selection that really bothers me. Aside from insanely low color choices, there's a few that that are too similar in color to really show a big difference when applied to an object or ride.

speaking of flaws of flat rides, i noticed that the observational tower you can't build the exit and the entrance like you can with the others, thats a seperate thing to build withing the observ. tower's settings, Color was awfull! Anyone notice this? There are other rides also like this.
Another flat ride flaw - The Revolution reverses rotation in mid swing. I've only been on ones that rotate the same way for the whole ride.

Speaking of that... I'm hoping the Top Spin is a bit more realistic, too.

In RCT2, it would move the arms, stop completely, then the gondola would flip. In reality, it's gravity that flips the seats, there's no driving mechanism on them, so the arms have to be moving to spin the gondola.

Hi

I've been on ones that have had a driving system on the car.

Doesn't Tomb Raider have a drive system on it to flip the seats? I seem to remember them saying that they have to keep them synched during operation and thats why they have so many computers controlling it. (this was during the Beastbuzz tour that they said that, BTW).

The Revolution thing kind of hacked me off. I was hoping it would spin around in one direction like the real ones. I also noticed that the Rockin Tug, or whatever they call it in this game, does the same lame thing. Also, don't stick your swings next to a roller coaster or the swings will colide with the track with no game effect, but it's a bit unrealistic if you do the ride camera mode.

Certain victory.

I was under the impression that Tomb Raider had an encoder on the gondola to tell the system when to enable the brakes, and that was why it stops in the same position. I didn't notice any motors driving the gondola.

I could be mistaken, but I'm under the impression that no Huss Top Spin (giant or teenie) has a driving gondola. The carriage flips due to the rotation of the main drive and the timing of the release of the gondola brakes.

On to my favorite new feature: you can turn the grass off. No more wasted handymen trimming weeds!

I tend to think you're right. I saw Tomb Raider operate from the "cage" on the floor, and at no point was the gondola forced up from anything beyond gravity.

Humm... Both the Huss Frisbee and Zamperla Discovery (copy of the KMG Afterburner) can reverse spinning direction in mid swing...

The program La Ronde uses this year on their Discovery does that at mid program.

The RIPSAW at Alton Towers stops at the top then rotates the car.after 2 full rotations it locks then moves forward 90 degrees then starts rotating again, completely against gravity.
That's because there are brakes on TopSpin gondolas... but no motors. Basically they can stop the motion of the gondola whenever they please, but any swinging and/or flipping happens purely because of gravity.
