First Time To Dollywood

Greetings Fellow Coaster Friends,

Last week, I had the fortunate opportunity to visit Dollywood in Tennessee for the first time. It had been a long time bucket list for me and I finally accomplished it. Lemme start by saying the park itself is in beautiful setting of the Smoky Mountains surrounded by lush greenery and hills. Let me also say that Pigeon Forge itself looks like Las Vegas threw up on the side of the road in the Smoky Mountains, but I digress. I literally have no complaints about the park. The landscaping and cleanliness were on point. The employees were all friendly and congenial. The ride attendants were effective and prompt. I will comment that make sure to wear comfortable and durable shoes when you visit. Remember, I said this park is built in the mountains and the topography of its layout reflects that. Most of the major attractions are up the hill(s) from the front gate. Lightning Rod is near the front but all the other coasters are pretty much towards the middle and back of the park. In two days, my buddy and I logged approximately 35,000 steps... the equivalent of nearly 18 miles in the Tennessee heat. But its well worth it. What made the trip even better is that the wait times were minimal. At one point Wild Eagle and Thunderhead were literal walk ons. Big Bear Mountain was about 10-15 minutes. I must regret that I did not get to ride Night Flight. Ms. Dolly herself was scheduled to appear last Friday for a press event, but the poor thing took ill and did not make the trip from Nashville. Also, it doesnt officially open until tomorrow(August 19). But that just gives me a reason to return to the Smoky Mountains(aside from a couple of VERY handsome gentlemen that wanna meet up with me ;> ). So I would highly recommend a trip up there. Just be mindful of the summer heat. It might be in the mountains, but the sun was definitely a bit challenging, so drink plenty of water. Oh, and I forgot, quite a few of the drink kiosks were offering FREE ice water. That was a definite plus!!! If you folks get a chance to go, lemme know your input. Ride on everyone!
