"First" Rides

As far as Top Spin did Geauga Lake have the first with Texas Twister?

Update: Just e-mailed Huss Rides and asked them what park got the first Top Spin. *** Edited 9/19/2004 8:39:31 PM UTC by Trick Track***

10. Steel inversion-"Revolution" @ SFMM (1976)

The first steel inversion was on Corkscrew at Knott's Berry Farm in 1975 by Arrow. The first successful steel vertical loop was on Revolution.

The Shipley Glen Aerial Glide rivals Bisby's Spiral Airship for oldest suspended. The exact date it was built is unkown but is believed to be around 1900.

Unfortunately, the ride was torn down this year. :(

The first Arrow Mine Train is at SFOT.
I believe the first Skycoaster was "I-5 Skycoaster" on International Drive in Orlando.

Kumba was not the first coaster with 4-across seating.

Geauga Lake was the first park to have two looping roller coasters!

Yeah, other Skycoasters pre-dated Kennywood's, but Kennywood's was the first to be installed inside an amusement park.

It was considered a pretty daring move at the time, and even the owners of the park only planned on keeping it for one, or at most, two years. It was supposed to be removed and put at Sandcastle after that.

Once everyone realized how popular it was, though, it quickly became a staple at most every park. It still sells out almost every day.

Knott's Berry Farm got its second looping coaster the same year Geauga got theirs.

Thanks for filling in my blanks everyone! And isn't that an opening big enough for Moosh to drive his truck through.

Now here's a toughie. What parks had the first Lemon Chill and Dippin' Dots stands?

Kidding. Unless.....

Texas Twister was the first N/ American instillation of a top spin, but not the first in the world...not as far as my research tells me..

If you can't stand the heights, get out of the line.

Paramount's Carowinds was the first park to have a suspended interactive water coaster....
I'm not sure of the proper term used for these type coasters but I believe the only other installation is at Hersheypark.

I will say that the Ohio State Fair had Dippin Dots before Amusemetn parks did. I would have to say 12-15 years ago just as an estimate. I remeber having them as a kid and going wow those are prety good.

Idlewild Park was the first park to feature Dippin Dots. Lemon Chill is a terrible product, and the owners should be beaten severely.

Kennywood's Sky Coaster was the tallest in the world for years. They never promoted that fact, as their main goal was to pay the thing off.

There were several Huss portable top spins available around 1991-2, and one was at IAAPA. The price tag was a bit salty, at $1.6 million for a flat. Geauga Lake paid $2.1 million with theming for a full sized boat, and the gamble left them with a great ride.

Received an e-mail back from Huss Rides today and it stated that Elitch Gardens was the first park to receive a Top Spin in June of 1991. The email did have the word "park" underlined. *** Edited 9/20/2004 4:56:51 PM UTC by Trick Track***

I'm pretty sure Kumba had several firsts.

First B&M sitdown, first diving loop, first cobra roll (on B&M), first 4-across seating.

It also had the first interlocking corkscrews.

I was asked to describe Deja Vu in one word. The word? AAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!
Stealth was not the world's first flying coaster. Skytrak has that honor. It was shortlived and has been scrapped long ago. But there is another flyer that was built before Stealth that is still operating. It's called Komet and it's located in Dubai.

Swampfoxer, Hydra Fighter II is another coaster like the ones you mentioned.

Yeah is Good!

Every year, and sometimes several times each year, this topic comes up. And every time someone brings up SOB. There were wooden coasters that looped in the early 1900's. I even thought that Moosh once mentioned one existing in the 1800's. So you're only off by about 100 years.

Edit: Sorry about the double post. *** Edited 9/20/2004 7:45:05 PM UTC by Incidentalist***

Here's one for ya, which Whizzer was the first Whizzer? I'd guess Santa Clara because of the weather, but if someone knows, they get a lollypop should I ever meet them in person. :)

Both Whizzers opened in 1976. I would think that PGA's opened first with it being warmer and that park opens sooner. *** Edited 9/20/2004 7:58:52 PM UTC by Trick Track***
