Hello,
I am searching for some advice on where to take a young friend of mine for his first big park visit. Our two choices are Hershey or Kennywood, as we live right between the two.
My friend is 12 years old and has only been to Lakemont Park and DelGrosso's Park. I have told him the differance between the two and he is having a tough time deciding. It is a very hard decision to make because they are both way above average and have an excelent assortment of rides and attractions, in my opinion.
I am not looking for any negitive comments toward either park, just some comparison to which would be the best first big park for a kid his age. If a negitive point must be made, please do it responsably and without strong hateful intentions towards either park. Please don't make it a versus thread, just a friendly comparing thread.
Keep in mind that I have been to both Kennywood and Hershey countless times and I love them both, and that's why it is hard to make up my mind. Also remember that this is my friends first look at what a bigger park is like. He has told me that he is looking foward to rideing some bigger more intense coasters.

Hershey is good if your friend is interested in trying an upsidedown roller coaster (that is, if he hasnt already). They are both amazing parks, so you cant go wrong either way. Then again, Hersheys Chocolate is another reason to go to Hershey.
But then Kennywood has PR, 3 amazing woodies, and exterminator, as well as its traditional park feel. So it all comes down to personal preference

Why do they report power outages on TV?

I just want to ride as many coasters as posible
Kennywood has the most intense coaster of the two parks (Phantoms Revenge), but the overall selection of coasters is better at Hershey (plus they have a few more coasters to choose from). They are both great parks and you can't go wrong with either.
Happy Coastering!
Sean
I honestly don't think you could go wrong with either, so just go with your gut reaction.

If you haven't, have your friend check out the web sites for the two parks. He can look at the rides that each offers and it may help him make a decision. If he still can't make a decision, it looks like you'll just have to take him to both parks. Bummmmmer!
Be sure to give us a trip report.

Thanks for all of the good advice. It is apparently a difficult decision. I will definately let him look at the two websites; That's a GREAT idea. I am hopeing that he'll turn out to be an enthusiast. I was 12 when I rode my first big coaster (Beast) and I haven't stopped sense. He seems very interested in coasters like me at that age.
I think we are leaning more towards Hershey. We will definately be going to both but park # 2 wont be until the very end of summer or next year.
Charles- Not to start a war or anything but Kenobles is not one of my favorites. I myself prefer a lot of other parks to Kenobles. Just my opinion.
EDIT: I can't spell

Thanks to everyone who replied, all 9 of you:) I took my young friend to Hersheypark and we had a blast. Next up is Kennywood in a month or so. If you want to know what happened, please check out my TR.
The funnyest thing about the trip was the older teenage girl allmost kissing my Little 12 Year old friend because she liked his hair.
