first looping coaster

what was the first coaster with a loop?

-----------------

Knotts Corkscrew was the first inverting coaster, Revolution @ SFMM was the first vertical looping. These are the first sucessful looping coasters, I should say. The first loopers were in the early 1900s, which usually didn't last too long and used circular loops, with maybe 1 or 2 exceptions.

Coney Island had one called the Flip Flap in the early 20th Century. Its biggest downfall was capacity. Only one person could ride at a time and the G's had to be high in order to keep the coaster on the track.

The first looping coaster was the French Cetrifugical Railway in 1848. Flip Flap Railway's problem wasn't capacity, that went to the the first coaster with an eliptical loop, the Loop de Loop, though it did not have the extreme gravitational forces on the loop, it had a small capacity(believe it was 2 seperate cars that carried two people) which caused extremely long lines and repeat riders were few.

The first looping coaster was the French Cetrifugical Railway in 1848. Flip Flap Railway was first American. Some people just exclude the Centrifugical Railway because it was a little off set from the modern coaster, but it still is desputively the first looping coaster.
