Well, as for wooden coasters burning, what about the fire themeing on the train at CP? That building has been burning for decades and isn't burned down yet, so I imagine there is some sort of way that flames could be incorporated safely into a ride.

There's real fire on Indiana Jones Adventure at DL. Backdraft's roof caught on fire right after it opened, but they fixed that (the part where the floor drops is the best effect!).

Remember, fire rises upward. so you could have controlled blasts of natural gas, much like on Volcano. You could do it on a wooden coaster, but only on places where there is no wood above it.
