Fire scorches Wildwood pier for second time this year

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Nickel's Midway Pier was closed Tuesday after an early morning blaze damaged a section of the pier and the pier offices. The cause of the fire, which has been deemed suspicious in nature, is under investigation, police said. The same pier, 3500 Boardwalk, was the scene of a devastating fire Jan. 16 that destroyed the popular dark ride Castle Dracula. Castle Dracula has since been demolished and temporarily replaced with an $8-per-ride bungee trampoline amusement.

That stinks how they keep getting those fires!

It's a shame seeing Wildwood suffer from arson and other tragedies of blight. It reminds me of Detroit! LOL (I can say that because I'm from that area.)
Wildwood is hardly in a blight. If you haven't visited the Morey properties, then you are in the dark, bubba.
Chill dude. I know what blight is when I see it. Morey's Piers may be a tight operation, but some of it's surrounding areas seem a bit shady.
I was in wildwood when it happened. Later that day, I was there and can only smell the fire and the stores right off the piers were closed. thats really it. The arcade is the only thing closed now

Certain sections of Wildwood have been "shady" for years. On the whole, Wildwood is doing fantastic, and the new convention center and reborn "midtown" area (used to be Holly Beach) is really going to improve things more.

If you want to see shady, check out the bad areas of Atlantic City. Wildwood is still thriving, with no signs of slowing down.
