Fire destroyed a decades-old building and a children’s ride at Lagoon amusement park late on December 18 and the cause is being investigated. The Carousel Candy store and the Scamper children’s bumper cars ride, side by side in the building, were destroyed. The building was at least as old as those built throughout the park after a 1953 fire burned down most of the attractions, Leishman said. The ride had been open since 1977.

I saw a headline the other day that described a fire and the loss of two “beloved” attractions and my heart stopped. Turns out it was the candy store and the Scamper Dodgem cars. I thought back to my day at Lagoon in August and I was reminded that the Dodgem (one of two in the park) was closed and walled off. I assumed it was for a haunt, so I really didn’t know much about it. I’m ve since learned that he ride was junior, or kiddie. As I recall, the candy store was kind of plain Jane, nothing special. I’m just thankful the damage was contained and it involved attractions that can be replaced instead of one of Lagoon’s dark rides or vintage attractions.
It was a junior bumper cars…that were really unique like the park itself. I guess all things considered…it could have been a lot worse. But still a sad loss…
Meh. The entire greater Salt Lake City area, especially Farmington, is a dying area entirely propped up by Lagoon Park.
But then again, what do I know?
