Tuesday, May 24, 2011 9:56 PM

An animatronic dinosaur, part of Kings Island new "Dinosaurs Alive!" exhibit, caught fire early Tuesday evening.

The fire was put out quickly, and no patrons had to be evacuated. A large cloud of black smoke did appear over the park.

The "Dinosaurs Alive" exhibit was scheduled to open Thursday.

Fire crews are still on scene.

This just in: "The cause of the accident has been determined to have been a very small asteroid."

Is it bad that the first thing I did was laugh?

Hey Mike, think they'll do this on a regular basis as a reality feature of the exhibit? ;)

This is the real reason that dinosaurs went extinct, spontaneousness combustion.

Oh my god. You guys are terrible. :) I haven't laughed that hard in a while.

I would, if I were in charge. :)

Dave: no, no, no. You're getting them confused with Spinal Tap drummers. ;)

According to a Kings Island spokesperson, the "Dinosaurs Alive" exhibit will open Thursday as scheduled.

So it can demonstrate to guests why they went extinct?

That is a lot of smoke for one animatronic dinosaur. Or maybe the park purchased Robosaurus and he went on an autonomous rampage.

It will open (most likely at full price) with the main dinosaur up in smoke!

According to news feed it was the main attraction that had a bad day.

I spoke with Don Helbig last Saturday, he said the attraction should take about 50 minutes to go through. I doubt the loss of 1 animatronic will be that big a deal in the short term.

I got a good laugh out of your Spinal Tap comment.
As far as the fire goes, I suppose the authorities will say that it's best to leave it unsolved ;)

Must have been an Intamin.

Uh oh. I'm suddenly very suspicious of the Backyard Barbeque. Tastes like chicken.

I came here for jokes, leaving quite satisfied.

An animatronic dinosaur catching fire is just about the lowest hanging fruit you can pluck, humor-wise.

Why, because you posted it in general instead of submitting a news item? Yeah, could be.

A quote from a completely different thread? Ok.

I'm horrified that anyone is using brain cycles to keep score, as if there's something personal going on.

You're all just too funny LOL... I need a good laugh!
