Fire at Dollywood

I just saw it on the news-no article on news site though--Fire reportedly started around 11:30 Friday evening. Because of this the Mountain Slidewinder is closed due to fire damage.
Really? What I a shame. I'm going next weekend, and the Slidewinder in one of my Favs. at the Park.

Any Information about what caused it?

What is the Slidewinder?

It's a waterslide on steroids. It's so fast it needs brakes down each straightaway. It is quite like the Wilderness Waterboggan at Silver Dollar City. Quite fun.

Like Previously said, its an Over-grown Waterslide that you don't need a Swim-Suit on. The Ride was Custom-Made by SDC/Herchend Ent. in 1987.

The Boats are [Said] to reach over 40mph on that final stretch. (Or at least that's what the Guide Map from '87 said;0 )

Either way it is faster that a normal slide and the tubes tilt over a 45 degree angle quite a few times. It is Slightly Longer and Larger that the one at SDC, because it goes along the Natural Form of the Mountain.

Because I have never been to Dollywood, how do you get to the top of the mountain? Does the park reach up there, or do you have to go up some stairs/que line?
The Ride is located on a hill beside the Valley that the park is in. You have to climb a series of steps to get to it.

At the Upper Station, you have a great View of the Smokies and Daredevil Falls.

If you have a problem with my grammer. Take a red marker and mark where the errors are on the screen.

That's sad, The slidewinder is fun.

Let's just say it's a long walk. That being said, it is a very cool ride.

Believe me, ive looked on all the local news websites, finding nothing. I saw it on WTNZ/Knoxville news Saturday evening.

May I also add that the entire Dreamland Forest section of Dollywood is closed for the time being.

Wow, that Bad? Looks like a big chunck of my day there next Saturday will be missing. Were going with tons of little kids. I'm not sure what they'll do. Hopefully it will be open again by my visit.

I have never been to Dollywood yet.. is it pretty good? I don't live that far from the Smokie Mtns., so we have considered going sometime. What is the best ride, or rides, at Dollywood? (besides the water slide mentioned here)

I like Silver Dollar City, a pretty good park actually. I used to live just over an hour from Branson.

Susie Q, if you liked Silver Dollar City then I think you would enjoy Dollywood. It is a beautiful park with incredible themeing and atmosphere. There are some great rides like Tennessee Tornado, Daredevil Falls, Wilderness Adventure (motion simulator), and a very well landscaped raft/rapids ride. Dolly Parton's museum within the park called Chasing Rainbows is an attraction in itself. There are also crafts, great food, and wonderful shows along the same lines as Silver Dollar City.

I hope they quickly repair and reopen the Mountain Slidewinder and Dreamland Forest. That ride is awesome and Dreamland Forest is a great interactive kids area.

You mean Waterworks Waterboggan right? They changed the name when they built the new course this year.

Thanks. We talked about it earlier and will probably try our best to make it to Dollywood before the season is out.

I AM a ride junkie, so I love to try every park and ride that I can!-- :-)

Just don't go to Dollywood expecting to be Blown away with Six Flags style Thrill Rides. There are 20 Rides in all, most of which are aimed towards Familys. The main things at this Park are Crafts, Shows, and Shopping. The Rides are just a nice little side attraction.

(If you've been to SDC, you know what to expect)

This evening more information became available on the news. Dreamland Forest Treehouse is now open-however the Mtn. Slidewinder remains closed. Apparently the fire was on the hills to the left of the "Mt. Everest" like queue line.

After just checking Dollywood's website,it is now confirmed that the ride is closed. It says "The Mountain Slidewinder is closed indefinitely while repairs are being made."
