Finally played Extreme

I finally got my ass on a DDR Extreme today at the local mall at lunch time. I haven't even played at home in the last few weeks because coaching volleyball has been sucking the life out of me.

I dig it... so many songs. Not knowing which mix something was originally in was kind of a pain, but I'll get it eventually. I played two games of doubles (5 songs for .75) and found myself insanely out of practice. By the last song (Paranoia Evolution) I finally started to get it together, but I think that was only because it was familiar.

I played a couple of the easier Extreme songs and liked what I heard, though none really jumped out at me. It's a real pain that so many songs are titled in Japanese (understandably so, mind you) so I tend to skip over many of those.

The worst thing about playing in the arcade is that I always want a machine for home use... ;)

I played Extreme at PKI on opening weekend.

It's an interesting machine, I just wish they would have had the volume up louder.

Don't...Look....Back

You and your cheap DDR...I just played Extreme in New York City and it was two dollars for 3 songs! How ridiculous is that? I guess thats NYC for ya, though.

If you're looking for a particular song and aren't too familiar with the machine it's nice to put the list in alphabetical order...that's what I always do :)

Let's face it Jeff, your house is the perfect house for a DDR machine. We should start a fund or something.

I always use the alphabetical list. It just takes too long to find what you want otherwise.

My local machine is 50 cents for 3 songs.... r0x0rs!!11

I'd have to ditch some furniture, Kara, and I don't know if we could get it into that downstairs room either. You should've seen the pinball machine go over the railing!

Yay for not playing good songs because of the fear of the unknown =D

You can sort music by mix if you wish to. Just push both yellow buttons at the same time when on the 'Select Music' screen. If you hit them again it puts it in alphabetical order, if you do it again I believe it does by beats per minute, then if you hit it again you put it in 'player's best' order.

Glad you finally got an Extreme machine, now all you have to do is get your nice arcade peeps to unlock all the songs like we did at Midway ;). It's kind of nice to be able to play Legend of Max without AA'ing a Heavy song.

You can play LoM without AA'ing a heavy song if you get it in the roulette. :)

I know you can sort by mix... that's what I was doing. I'm assuming it is fully unlocked because DDR was one of the available songs (and one I tried on doubles... too easy in light mode).

While I can't possibly be as fabulous and cool as you, Tiger, as I said, I haven't played in weeks, so I wasn't planning on pissing away quarters on stuff I wasn't comfortable playing.

I challenge anyone to find a post by Tiger of PTS that doesn't have a patronizing attitude...

The first time I played Extreme, I played all my old favorites from MAX2 and didn't even touch the new songs. That's because I was there to play songs I liked and have fun, not waste money on songs I may not like or may fail quickly. I tried the new songs later when I felt like it.

This is why I will never criticize someone for playing "old" or "worn-out" songs like Dynamite Rave, EotC, Let's Groove, Cowgirl, whatever. Maybe it's old to me, but it could be their first time hearing it.

I don't think so, Tiger. Without the question mark and the "errm," maybe.

I went to spend some more time on an Extreme machine today at the exceptionally hot mall (yay for not turning on the AC yet.). . .

I'm really beginning to like it a lot. It has a good mix of older, familiar songs and some new stuff that I really like. It was a *tad* annoying being surrounded by the regulars, though. I just wanted to feel my way into playing this machine and they were all hovering around me watching. It makes me nervous.

If I want to use my quarters to dance to J-Pop, I will. Go away if you don't want to hear it. ...that's my new philosophy.

More power too you. The pop on Extreme is amazingly good.

Hyper Eurobeat for life.

(although actual eurobeat sucks =D)

I played the Extreme at Celebration City. The only problem the game was in Japenesse, but we were able to figure it out. I love dancing to the tune of "We Will Rock you".
