One year ago today, local leaders stood in a field on Jim Warren Road east of Interstate 65 to announce a theme park was coming that would bring plenty of jobs and tourist dollars to the area. Dubbed Festival Tennessee, the $750 million, 1,500-acre project was to have not only the theme park but two resort hotels with 4,000 rooms each, 80 restaurants, a charter school, sports complex and a shopping outlet. Now 12 months later, the spot of land remains just an empty field.

Same old story. Any time some developer comes out of the blue with pie-in-the-sky plans for some new park, take the announcement with a metric ton of salt.
