Ferris Wheel Record

As reported at Thrillride.com:

12 people will ride the Ferris Wheel at SFSL non-stop for up to 72 hours, with food, water and shelter provided. The only time the wheel can stop is for other riders during normal operating hours. Otherwise, the ride must continue to spin.

For one, this doesn't seem all that long to me. I mean, I wouldn't want to do it for 72 hours, that's for sure! But haven't there been longer records set for rollercoasters? And how the heck to these people use the bathroom? I sure wouldn't want to be standing underneath during this attempt; nor the clean up guy!

I am sure as all records are they do get time off the wheel for 15 mins or so twice a day or something. And 72 hours doesn't seem that long. Maybe a little more research will tell us what the record is.

Thanks,
DMC

REcord is 37 days!

Here's the thing for me... I like coasters/parks/etc. because I think it's fun. I can see no way of getting enjoyment out of any of these record setting rides. Especially one on a stinkin' ferris wheel.

I don't want to do something I love for that long.

Hi

Not suprised its hosted by 101.1 the River, they always do retarded contests like this, I think last year they locked up several people in a car.... I think.... I listen to 105.7 the point and 93.3 so I wouldn't be exactly sure....
105.7 and 93.3? Wow, you must be cool...I think...but I just listen to my cds since radio sucks.

Sorry to be an ass, but it seemed like you were trying to say something about yourself compared to those who listen to 101.1. And yes I know what each of those stations is since I grew up in StL.

Yea, but I have a car that doesn't have a CD player so I like to listen to those stations since they play the music I listen to.
If they wanted to make it a REAL challenge they should have done it on a Eli #16 wheel.
The Guinness Book of Records allows a five minute break every hour for any such record attempt. These breaks can be saved up for a longer break - that's how Richard Rodriguez does his thousand-hour marathons...

If the record is quoted in days rather than in hours, then you only need to be on the ride during standard operating hours for each of the days making up the record attempt.

Still, it doesn't seem that long to be a World Record. Regardless, I can think of a lot better ways to spend three days. They could at least make it some sort of fund raising event for charity. Get people to sponser you for X amount each hour, or something.

Also, the article doesn't mention anything about a prize. The least they could do is make it a little interesting.

Guinness endurance records = lame. The allowed breaks are cheating, plain and simple. Simpsons quote:

HOMER: What's the record for strumming a banjo with a cobra?
GUINNESS PERSON: 72 days.

There are 6 people currently riding Colossus for 72 straight hours. The other 6 people decided to not do the contest. They are given a 5 min. break every 3 hours. They have a portable bathroom with them in the gondalas and are provided food and water. They must ride non-stop for 24 hours to set the record, but the ride closed for lightning yesterday so they had to start over again. See the article here:

There is also info on sixflags.com here http://www.sixflags.com/parks/stlouis/ParkPress/article061504.html

The Six Flags bus will be at Six Flags St. Louis July 2-4, with "Mr. Six" look alike dance contest on July 2.

Yep, and I was the one who spotted the lighting from Eagle's station, so blame me! :)
How bad would it suck to ride the wheel in the next cab over from some guy who hasn't showered for several days and has been taking dumps in his porta potty...
All six people finished riding for 72 straight hours to set a new record. One person won $1,000 and SF surprised the other 5 and gave each of them $500. They all got passes for the next three years also.
What I would like to see is a contest like that on Wildcat. Just before It's retracked. I would do it.

One of the girls had a cute little kitten named kitty-kitty, the other girl had a cute little puppy named Chris, and the third girl was a republican.
