FBI says theme parks were not targets of terrorist attacks

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Despite a number of published reports over the last few weeks that indicate Disney World and Disneyland were targets, the FBI says that these reports are not true.

Read the AP report on The St. Petersburg Times.

Good. But still, I would not rule them out just yet. I am still a little weary about the whole situation.
If these places were targets, or for that matter, are targets, then they have been for alot longer than just since Sept.11th.  We are just aware of that fact now, and now can be more cautious.  The media needs to keep their collective mouths shut, and the copycat hoaxes need to stop.  It is destracting the FBI and the government from doing the job at hand, and it is causing more terror among the American public.  Even if the foreign terrorists never do anything else, they won't have to, because these people on our own soil are doing the job for them.  We even had a 16 yo kid arrested for leaving an envelope filled with white powder in the hallway of a local high school.  It turned out to be flour, but the hoaxes and alarmist news stories need to stop.
remember when the "white powder" kids were getting in trouble for was "just" cocaine...there WAS a story about them hitting nuclear power plants, but I feel a little more secure about those now...theme parks to me just aren't an easy target unless you have a HIGHLY contagious biological weapon.

Shelly i agree with you 100 per cent about these stories need to stop.I feel that the media takes a story, and makes a big issue out of it.The people are starting to come back to Disney.I my self and family will be staying at the animal kingdom lodge this weekend.
I don't believe that theme parks were ever really a target anyway. If you're a terrorist looking to cause maximum destruction, you're going to choose to destroy a target that will result in the maximum possible amount of death and destruction. Unfortunately, that's exactly what happened in New York.

Personally, i think everyone should keep going to amusement parks and theme parks.  thats the only way for me to really get the whole situation off my mind and think about other good things in this world.  if people are afraid to go because of an attack, then the terrorists have just further succeded in their plan.  i also agree with shelly about how the press needs to cool it.
Was there a "credible threat" prior to the attack on the World Trade Center, Pentagon, etc?
I'm going to Disney next week and am pretty excited about it.  I hear that it's only about half full right now.  The lines should be considerably shorter.
The weekends at Disney are somewhat busy (though nowhere near what they should be) but the weekdays are smooth sailing!
After reading this article in the St. Pete.Times, I feel a bit more relaxed about going to Disney World.  My husband & I are going up there on  October 28th thru the 30th.  At first after hearing all the reports about Disneyland & DisneyWorld being potential targets, we felt a little uneasy about going.....but, I feel this way...these bastards aren't going to stop me from going to my all time favorite places, especially theme parks and amusement parks....I for one, am not going to lock myself up in my home and be afraid to go anywhere...life goes on..and we should live this life to the fullest and that includes going to and seeing the things this country has to offer....We are Americans...let's show these jerks the stuff we and this country are made of !!!!!!  GOD BLESS THIS COUNTRY !!!!!!  WE SHALL OVERCOME !!!!!

Kathy, and everyone else, you're absolutely right to continue carrying on as normal. I've lived with terrorism all my life, with the constant threat of IRA bombs here in England, but not once have I altered my plans to go anywhere, regardless of how often bombs have been exploding in various parts of the country.

Once you've decided not to go somewhere because you consider it a "target", then where do you draw the line? If you're not careful, everywhere will become a target, and you'll never leave your own house!
