Fans of CCI Coasters...

Hey, I just thought that I'd point out for everyone who is gaga over CCI woodies that the first CCI woodie (The Outlaw) is at Adventureland in Des Moines, IA. (They actually have 2 CCI rides there) So if you've ever wondered how they age consider making a quick trip to this old school amusement park.

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, CCI's first coaster was the Sky Princess at Dutch Wonderland in PA.
I don't care what the first was, the best is what counts...Shivering Timbers!!

Amen to that.

Coasters- a little slice of heaven
He he... Too bad the best is Ghostrider.

~THE HEAT~
I was hoping this topic wouldn't turn into a Shivering Timbers V Ghostrider. But I suppose that's the way the coaster Gods work. ;) Does anyone know how well CCI's age? Some friends that went with me this year to Adventureland mentioned that they thought the Outlaw had gotten more rough, but I didn't notice that much of a difference. Anyone have any expereince with older CCI's?

I wasn't trying to start a flame war, I was just playing. I wish I could actually ride Shivering Tims so that I really COULD compare the two.
Yep the Sky Princess was the first. It's like 2 hours from me and I still didn't ride it.

Looks like I've got to stop having so much faith in what friends tell me huh? I do know that the Outlaw has been around for a bit though. However, I'm sure you guys are right

I think 2Hostyl can vouch for me on this when I say that Cyclops and Zues at Big Chiefs have some extremely wicked out of your seat airtime. Big Chiefs has 3 CCIs and its a go-kart park. Its definetely different from the norm.

"DONT FIGHT IT, RIDE IT",,,,RAGING BULL
Man, I'd love to go to Big Chief ... that place looks nuts. So, just to throw a curve into that Ghostrider vs. Shivering Timbers war: I haven't been on GR (yet), but I do prefer another CCI - Rampage - to ST, so I'm wondering if THAT'S CCI's best (of course, others may choose Raven, or Legend, or Villain, or the Boss, etc., etc.).

Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill.
The Sky princess was built in 92. The Great White at Morey's Piers was built in 96, and is running just a little bit rough, compared to 5 years ago. They now water the track like the Mean Streak. It is tough to fight the elements like the ocean. No complaints yet.
I've been on most top tier CCIs such as

Rampage
Shivering Timbers
GhostRider
Boulder Dash
Legend
Raven
The Boss
Villain
Zeus
Cyclops

The "roughest" out of all those was definitely The Boss. It has this weird shakiness to it. It mushes your brain around it your head. That said, it's one HELL of an out of control ride. The smoothest was...well, I guess ST, GR, Legend, and Villain, all of which I rode within one week of their openings. I'm betting that has *something* to do with it.
Mmmmmmmm, Boulder Dash *drools*

Yum.
Back to the Outlaw. That could be considered the first GCI even though it was designed and built by CCI. It was Mike Boodely first design that CCI built. Mike then struck out on his own with Clair Haines to form GCI.

Now someone wrote on another board that Big Chief's coasters were "horribly" maintained. Well after being nearly jetisoned from the backseat of Cyclops mere months ago, I have to say if they are running bad, I couldnt handle them running good. This is not a picture of me (nor of cylcops), but this is how I was on the "Cylclops Drop", except I had both hands up (scary, but strangely fun) http://www.joyrides.com/sfog/full/georgia_cyclone5.htm
BTW: Cyclops is 5 years old. (1995)
Yeah, Big Chief's coasters are great. I was totally caught off guard by the 2 lap rides. We had walked right on so we didn't get a chance to watch a train pass through the station. Very pleasantly surprised of course. :)

I have not ridden nearly enough CCIs. I thoroughly enjoyed the ones I have ridden though.
What about some of the smaller ones ? The only one I've been on is the Myrtle Beach Hurricane which opened this year . It is not exactly rough but I've heard plenty others complaining .
Wisconsin has 2 great coasters I hope Big Chief put's some cash for an awesome terrain Woodie. They have the makings for an unbelievable amount of land. Lot's of woods and fairly hilly. Zeus is fairly short as is Cyclops. They are both out of control. Maybe something larger and longer.

BMCOASTER
Concerning Wisconsin Dells I'm a frequent visitor only being 2 hours away and can safetly say this much. The town is Tourist Trap Central (but strangely in a good way).

I wouldn't be surprised if a few of the dozens of various parks in the town (the number of parks in that town is ludicrous) start building woodies. I don't know if any of them have enough to economic security to build a steel coaster, but I'm willing to bet that a few more CCIs and maybe a few GCIs start to pop up in the cheese state.
