Fall Affair 2013: Cancelled

Jeff's avatar

I hated to do it, but with only five people signing up a month out, we decided to cancel the Fall Affair at Holiday World. My apologies for anyone who was hoping to go this year.

Any word on BooBuzz at Cedar Point?

MLEM4S STILL rules

I wonder why this event has lost popularity over the last couple of years.

Spent a couple hours this weekend trying to get my brother to come to this. Would have been 10 of us. Guess its a good thing he said no.

I think it's a combination of factors. Not many live close to Holiday World so it can be a long drive. There are no new coasters and most have ridden the 3 there a ton. Holiwood Nights also happens every year.

I remember there being a big crowd for Fall Affair '05, the first year. This was partly because there had been no events at all for several years. Without a local population, it is hard to maintain the same level of interest with no new offerings.

Jeff, perhaps you could consider an event that rotates to different parks each year. WildEagleBuzz, GateKeeperBuzz, BansheeBuzz.

I am sure the groundwork to do that would be immense. You'd have to reinvent the wheel every year.

Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

Yeah. I knew that when I posted. Jeff would have to schmooze a lot of difference people/parks.

Yeah, lack of anything new, our kids are older and school is beginning to become something that our oldest shouldn't miss because of an enthusiast event. We're already planning on having him in school a half day for PPP in October, but the timing of it was hard for us to try and go.

BeastBuzz was amazing though.

Ah, James, but you forget: Jeff's an industry insider now. All he has to do is whip out his Shamu phone and people start jumping.

My brain went where I didn't want it to go when I read this.

Events are a real mixed bag. Results have varied greatly over the years. Sometimes they're fun to do, sometimes they're just a pain in the ass. I think some of you have valid points though, that there probably is some amount of Holiday World fatigue without anything new.

I'm fairly certain we'll do Kings Island next year. We've already started to talk about it. I hear they're building something for next year.

I've got to make it next year, without fail. I'm not so concerned with meeting all you people, but I must...absolutely MUST be the first one to ride Dragon Wagon.

WagonBuzz?

Nah, anyone can get that info from the latest issue of Inside Track.

Paula just posted this on the HWN facebook page.

Well apparently CB won't let me paste her comments on here.

Basically she said that they are still going to have evening ERT on the Voyage for those that attend on September 14th.

Before you can be older and wiser you first have to be young and stupid.

Ahem! Yes, I was about to share that. Thank you, Dave. :)

If you were already planning to attend the now-cancelled event, we hope you still will, as we will provide some Voyage ERT at closing.

If you're not already part of the HoliWood Nights Facebook group, you're welcome to join - that's where we're trying to count how many plan to attend and to share specifics about the evening.

Oh, and Jeff - you're welcome to attend. But only if you bring Simon and Diana. :)

All he had to do is listen to me for once.

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

I don't know if Shamu will give me the day off.

Seeing that Shamu needs to comply with OSHA regulations, I imagine he has to follow DOL laws as well.
