F- - - the TOS, this is America!

I can't believe this! My topic about the best state for coasters has been closed. I think that post I made was a valid post. I wanted to know what people thought were good states for coasters and parks. Sure there may be different opinions among some of you, but mature people can accept each others views without fighting or flaming each other. My post was about how wonderful the parks in Pennsylvania were. I am from Ohio, a state that has Cedar Point, which is often voted the #1 park in the world, yet I didn't choose Ohio as being the best. This post wasn't meant as an immature CP vs. SFMM post. This was meant as a topic for people to discuss what is out there. I mentioned a lot of parks from Pennsylvania and someone could have posted a reply about their own state or another state with some really great coasters and parks.and people could have been informed about what is out there. Notice that I didn't trash any other area, I just simply stated that I think Pennsylvania is the best. People are always comparing things on here and saying this is good or this is bad and nothing is ever said about it(unless it is just someone who is totally negative about everything).

For the record, I think having a TOS is a good thing because these discussion groups need monitored, but it shouldn't be used in a way that restricts people's freedom of speech.

Coaster enthusiasts are a good example of the problems that society has. Everything is offensive to society and everything is offensive to a coaster enthusiast. You can't praise parks in Pennsylvania because it will hurt the feelings of coaster enthusiasts everywhere else, just like in society. We now have that awful two-word phrase "politically correct". This means that no one is welcome to have any freedom at all. If another man decides to ask me out and I tell him I would rather date a girl, I am wrong and being unfair to gays because I want to date girls. If I sing a folk song about someone who kills his girlfriend because she was cheating on him, it is wrong. I still sing that certainsong that Idedicate to a certain exgirlfriend in my shows because the song is about a woman who cheated on her boyfriend with a guy named Dave. My ex cheated on me with a guy named Dave and guess what, she is a coaster enthusiast. Why do I do this in my shows, the answer is simple-it is called freedom of artistic expression, which is defended by the constitution of the United States of America. Sure it may offend some people, but the freedom that gives me the right to do these things also gives them the right to live their lives their way. I do not want anything in this post to send a message that I hate anyone, I just think it is a shame that freedoms that are given to us by the Constituion of the United States are taken away when you are on a roller  coaster discussion group.

In closing, I would like to say that my topic about the best state for coasters and parks was intended to cause people to promote parks and coaster they like. Why would any coaster enthusiast be offended by the promotion of coasters and parks? It is a shame that the TOS of an internet discussion group is given more consideration than the Constitution of the United States of America. The TOS needs changed.

Well, if you don't like the TOS of this webstie, go create your own and you can set your TOS to whatever you like.

Well I think this is one of the major problems your thread faces.  Although you may have the best intentions for the thread, and you're mature about it.  You can't keep the younger kids (no offense to the mature ones) that regularly post on here from breaking down and turning this into a mud-slinging contest.  I don't know for sure, but I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that this is why your thread was closed.  Don't take it personally.  You're not the only person who's had a seemingly innocent thread closed.  It's just the fact that you can't steer the thread.  Someone would make one negative comment (read:troll) and everyone would bash that troll.  Then it's over before it starts.  It also has nothing to do with rights or our Constitution.  When you signed up for Coasterbuzz (or didn't for that matter), you didn't purchase stock in some mythical "company" called Coasterbuzz.com.  You merely helped keep this website up and running by helping to pay the bills.  He didn't give everyone a stake in running it.  He (and the rest of the mods) have to make decisions for the overall health of the thread.

Accually, this isn't America, this is Jeff's property. He owns it, he's the boss. Do you think people who work at Microsoft say "No way! I won't do that Bill, I don't want to, this is America!"? No, they don't, because they'll be fired. Here, you'll just be banned. You don't like it, then get out of here. We don't need "The TOS sucks" type of topics around here. Do yourself a favor and delete this topic while you still can.

There are plenty of other message boards and/or newsgroups that is just what you want, however, we want things different here. I reccomend RRC, completly unmoderated, and you can talk about whatever you want. If you don't know how to, you can do it through googlegroups. http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&safe=off&group=rec.roller-coaster

Me, well, I will stick to the best board ever :). Go elsewhere for your free speech.

FINALLY! Someone who makes sense.  Homey G... I thank you very much for that much needed post.

Yes, but don't mature people e-mail the webmaster about a problem, and not make a public rant and get banned?

Divorced From Dependence since 1987!

I'm usually the last one to defend the thread closing powers that be but the subject line of your complaint is just flat out wrong.

I could care less if you're swearing but this *is not* America, never has been, never will be. This is the *internet* which is a worldwide thing last time I checked. Yes, most posters here are from America but there are plenty of others that post regularly or semi-regularly. Web sites are *not* subject to rules like free speech, they're subject to the whims of the owner who spends all their time, money and energy on them.

I don't like moderation any more than you do but it's a fact of life with these web based boards...if you hate it that much feel free to join the rec.roller-coaster community, it's the oldest and longest lasting coaster devoted presence. It's been around long before Coasterbuzz and I'm sure it'll exist long after as well. The side effect? Trolls who can't be stopped and rampant OT posting (the OT posting I personally enjoy)

If RRC doesn't sound like your cup of tea then your only other option is to grin and bear it...all of the good web boards have similar TOS agreements (though admittedly some are more gestapo-esque in their enforcement than others) and moderation.

At last check the internet was not part of the United States of America. The Internet (a.k.a "World Wide Web") is an empty void of space, in which exist to create a sense of gathering, for people of all races, creeds , colors. It is not represented in the U.N., there is not a president, nor does it identify with any one nation. It is a movement, an idea, of information, and without people creating such sites as this one,  and protecting this site with the TOS, then it falls into the forums where rules, and order does not exist, but replaced with chaos and disorder. Jeff created the TOS to keep this site, IMO the best coaster site on the net, clean, and fight free. If you want your freedom of speech, go stand on the street corner and scream profanitys at everyone and see how long you have that freedom. We must police ourselves, in order to keep the internet free, and without governmental governing bodies watching our every movement.  Think twice before  speaking once, you have been here  longer than I have, but I understand the TOS, and yes I have had topics closed. Did I raise cain over it? No, I accepted the fact that I did not follow the TOS and my topic was shut down. I did not write another topic using cuss words to state your point .  I understand where you are coming from, but   it is like Homey G, said there are those here, that look to start something by a simple post and we are above that. So please close the topic before it is too late.

Jeff runs the site therefore he can make the rulkes.  If he don't want you to post certain topics like Vs. and the best, topics like this one, etc. he can do that he runs the site.  If you want to have these topics design your on site and your own TOS.

You are the weakest link..........goodbye

I just had to say that. :)

So you want to "F- - - the TOS"?

You want to get rid of all rules so there can be a whole bunch of idiots flaming people in a state of anarchy? Show me any country that uses this type of "governing" that's actually successful, and then we can talk about not having a TOS. Until then, either leave or sit back and stay calm like the rest of us. Posting threads that attack the owners or their ways of enforcing their rules won't get you very far, except kicked out the door.

Nothing more needs to be said that hasn't been said, other than the fact that this is exactly the kind of noise we can all live without.

People make this big deal about what a bastard I am and about how I get off on closing topics. Anyone who does so shouldn't flatter themselves... I don't have the time nor interest in making it personal just for the sake of feeling better about the size of my genitals.

When you're a guest in someone's house, you should respect that instead of pissing on the floor. We've got rules we apply evenly, and as a result have something that many sites don't... actual meaningful conversation.
