How can you say they didn't know if the coaster was originally a travelling coaster in Germany and the park bought the ride used?

That's BS, man! If you don't know, don't reply! It's very simple.
Lallen, to answer the question: Anton Schwarzkopf (R.I.P., you are missed!) was a very skilled and talented engineer. In many people's opinion, he is the father of the steel coaster. Yes, he wasn't the very first to build one, but he was the first to figure out how to build them well. His rides still deliver like they are brand new. As for Taz, it was designed in the early 80s, and Anton certainly knew what he was building. He liked ferocious Gs and that's what he made. Thriller (as it was known for more approx. 15 years) was the perfect intense ride for the traveling German Fair circuit. They really don't get any more intense.
Today, it is more intense than the kind of rides SF usually purchaces. I'm sure they rode it before buying it from Oscar Bruch, but it's sure not typical of what you find installed at a SF park today! If they properly resolve the train situation with proper restraints (PLEASE let it be lap bars!), Thriller/Taz/Tornado will stand as one of the greatest steel masterpieces ever built!

As for the thing about the back row being roped off, I haven't heard anything about it.
Yeah, my understanding is that all rows have been "roped off" for over a year now! ;)

I heard the reason Taz's Texas Tornado closed was because in the 2001 season they got new trains and there were problems with them. It operated at SFAW since March 14, 1998. Before that it was a traveling coaster since it was built in 1986.
MikeMir87 I don't know if you were being sarcastic but considering Anton Schwartzkopf built the first modern day looping coaster and has been designing coasters for 20 some years before this coaster opened i'm sure he knew what he was doing. And don't worry I'm not biting yer head off I'm just sayin..... ;-)
