Explain Michigan's Adventure.

So are you saying half of Gemini could be in MI right now if the park got built? Or do you mean the park in MI might have Gemini instead of CP?

Either way, Gemini was built before Cedar Fair bought Cedar Point. So I don't think your theory works very well. Nice observation though.

I beileve that this is a park of the future. Yes it is a small park but there is tons and i mean ton of land. I have heard from seversl people it is like driving in the middle of corn field then BAM a huge wooden track flies right out of a treeline placed infront of the park. A PARK OF THE FUTURE ENOUGH SAID.

The theory (which, btw., isn't mine) is that Cedar Point bought Gemini with the idea of using it as the anchor coaster for their new park in Michigan. The timing of the project is about right. When instead of building a new park in Michigan, they bought an existing park in Minnesota (and renamed the company "Cedar Fair"), Cedar Point became the obvious home for Gemini. I guess the way to check the theory would be to find out when Gemini was announced for Cedar Point.

Gemini was built for the 1978 season. Cedar Fair did not exist at the time; it was Cedar Point, Inc., until after the acquisition of Valleyfair!.

Magnum Force, CF technically didn't buy CP, but a partnership did, then they also bought ValleyFair and thus became Cedar Fair L.P.. So CP didn't create CF either.

OK, I see what your saying rideman.

One more time...

Nobody bought Cedar Point. The conversion from Cedar Point, Inc. to Cedar Fair, L. P. was not an ownership change, but a corporate reorganization...partially to reduce the likelihood of an ownership change, partially for tax reasons.

The only thing about the Gemini theory is that I question the idea that Cedar Point would give what was the world's tallest coaster at the time to another park.

Maybe that would be a marketing strategy for what would have been the new park, but it just sounds odd to me.

IE they created Cedar Fair which is what I said Coasteroid

Why Michigan's Adventure?

You know those 'sandbox' parks in RCT? Michigan's Adventure is a sandbox park.

It has no theming whatsoever to ruin, it is profitable, it's 4 hours from the nearest competitors, but it still extends influence to population centers [Grand Rapids, Chicago on the extreme edges], it blocks a Six Flags attempt to surround Cedar Point, and it has more usable real estate than SF Great America.

The overall area owned is probably comparable to that of SFGAm [which has a gi-normous parking lot], but only 20-25% is developed. It's dead flat scrub land. It was cheap, too.

Basically, MIAdv was a cheap, money-maker little up and comer with room to spare in a market that worked in a lot of ways for Cedar Fair -- and in a state that *likes* Cedar Point. Basically, they took the West Michigan market away from Great America.

That and it actually has room for a tera-coaster.

But it makes sense...what better way to get loads of attention for a newly built amusement park than to have it anchored by the world's biggest roller coaster? Hey, it worked for Fiesta Texas!

Very true... As big of a deal as Gemini was at CP, I can only imagine the effect it would have upon a newly-opened park.

I feel that MiA will be a premier park that could compare with the likes of Knott's, Dorney, Kennywood, and all the other mid-size, major parks in the country if Cedar Fair sees the potential in it. There is a ton of land to develop and the possibility of major rides to be put in. I think in the next two years they should put in a Beemer Inverted, an S+S Tower, a hyper, and maybe another Beemer (floorless, flyer). Don't need anymore woodies, plenty of good ones already. Great family park.
