Evel Knievel And C.P.

I am watching the movie about Evel Knievel and in the backgrounds of one of his jumps they show Cedar Point. They showed Mean Streak, Iron Dragon, Millennium Force, and Mantis. It definatly wasn't historically acurate do to Millennium Foce being in the bachground but it was still cool to actually see Cedar Point in a movie.

It was a 1975 jump at PKI and the wood coaster was Gemini, not MS. It was a cool scene.

Now I'm confused. If it was at PKI, how does Gemini fit in there?

I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead

Knivell did a jump in Kings Islands parking lot in 1975 well before paramount was ever involved.

I only remember watching a couple of his jumps as a kid but what I saw was both idiotic and amazing at the same time.

He didn't use stunt equiptment, but full size 1500pd harleys.

Chuck, who did see him break every bone in his body at least once.

Yea in real life Knievel jumped at Kings Islands, but in the movie they shoot the scene with Cedar Point as the background.

Did they actually shoot it at Cedar Point, or did they just use an edited background of the park?....and When will this movie be on again, and what channel?

Kyle Says: Diamondback was a lot of fun! Made his first time at Kings Island worth it all!

They're airing it again at 8PM tonight on TNT.
Ok, thank you.

I believe the CP back drop was added after filming. Otherwise they wouldve been filming in the general area of the Snoopy ice show. Also when you look at the wooden coaster at one point it looks more like a Coney Cyclone clone(Six Flags) than Gemini.

My feeing is since they say in a subtitle that it's at a park they wanted lots of park elements in the background.

Ok, tivia question.... how many of us "grown ups" had one of those Evil Knievel dolls on the rev-up motorcycle? I did. You know, the one that you either placed on the mechanism with the handle that you turned until he took off, or you used the pull zip strip to send him off?

Now there's a memory. Geez, I feel old now, I bet most of these kids on here have no idea that he even existed. LOL

I had the SSP (or was it SST?) version with the ripcord. Ever get the skin between your thumb and index finger caught in the wheel when you pulled it? Ouch!
The Cedar Point scene with Millenium, Mantis & Iron Dragon was superimposed into the background behind the shot....and was that wooden coaster really the Gemini? It didn't look like it...
I didn't think it was a CP coaster either. The wooden coaster in the background looked much more like the CI Cyclone... or one of it's many clones.

Yah....I'm with Shaggy on that one. In fact, the coasters from two different parks threw me and I wasn't sure which park it was. I've never been there so I was thinking Canada's Wonderland.

The whole scene was wierd because there was a football stadium too. In fact, a lot of the effects were rather strange.

And heck ya, I remember SSP or STP or whatever it was. It was a blast making him crash into walls. Too bad they didn't have a rocket version.

Yea Shaggy we are so OLD. I had one too. There were motorcycles, the canyon rocket and, if memory serves, a funny car. There may have been others.

That wood coaster may have been Viper at SF Great America. It wasn't Gemini.

I am definitely turning into an old person...

I mean one of my true test of friendships is to see if anyone can tell me where the quote:

"Fazer, Vhy is zer vater leaking from her eyez?"

came from. If a person knows, I can usually bond with them quickly. LOL

Oy, I wish I had salvaged my childhood toys...

Alas all my original 12" GI Joe's, Action Jackson, and Evil met their fates during my firecracker phase.

Shaggy

Well I had a Evil Kneivel Pinball machine, Traded it for a Mata Hari which I still have.

Chuck

I had an Evil Knievel SSP. Those were great toys. I believe they have brought back a pseudo-spinoff of that toy a couple of years ago.

I had SSPs and the Evil Knievel stunt-cycle and launch stand with the crank.

Chuck, Harley Sportsters were closer to 500# than 1500# but still weren't the best of choices for jumping. At least his kid was using actual dirt-bikes when he did his jumping.

Shaggy, your quote is going to bug me till my mental access software is able to retrieve its source. :(
