Euro Coaster Kings:Top 10 Coasters in Europe

I just got finished watching a show on the top ten coasters in Europe. It was a very suprising and impressive line-up.

Top Ten Coasters were....
10.Pepsi Max Big One
9.Posideon@Europa Park
8.Shockwave@Drayton Manor
7.Big Dipper@Blackpool Pleaasure Beach
6.Eurostar
5.Thunder Coaster
4.Megaphobia
3.Colossos
2.Dragon Khan
1.Nemesis & Oblivion

Notes-
Shockwave: Looked to be a pretty good stand up, but I just can't get over that ridiculously tiny little drop. The park owner believes that Shockwave will even today attract vistors from around the world.

Thunder Coaster-One of the most beautiful and stunning woodies I've ever seen, especially from aerial veiw. I found out that while built by Intiman, Arrow was the key/co-designer of this magnificent woodie. This is actually because the park's insperation for to build Thunder Coaster was Pepsi Max, that's right the Big One. Arrow design most of the ride, but basically wasn't skilled at building this ride. The plans were then taken to Intiman who built the ride.

Dragon Khan-WOW and I mean
WOW!.
B&M go on with your bad self. The star coaster in the show was amazing, breathtaking, and out of this world twisted. One of the most well themed top notch coasters in the most beautiful park in the world. I have to go to Port Adventura.

Oblivion-Alton Towers said they were looking for a Reallyreallybig wild rideso they built...
Oblivion. No comment

Accually, Thunder Coaster is one of the Vekoma woodies, which is surprising. People always bash Vekoma rides, and that one looks like the sweetest thing I've ever seen (well, one of the sweetest.) I doubt Arrow had a thing to do with it though, they said a UK firm helped in the design of it. Arrow is in Utah, the UK is in the UK. John Wardley or someone like that probably helped. We all know how lots of B&Ms in Europe are Wardley's design, it's probaby the same sort of thing with Thunder Coaster.

Blimey, who compiled that list? lol

Having rode most of those, and many many times.
I can safely say Pepsi-max doesnt even deserve to be in top 20 even of Europe...
Nemesis should be 2nd after Expedition G force..

As for shockwave, its very short ride, but fast and intense throughtout..

:)

And Dragan Khan, yup its a WOW..... :) lol

Joeys notes on the show...

Where was Grand National, I thought it was the star woodie at Blackpool?

John Wardley: Look at the size of those arms!...not a man I would pick a fight with.

I was a little suprised they showed Richard Rodriguez come flying into the station standing up.

I'm pretty sure Shockwave doesnt have the biggest loop on a stand-up.

Hmmmmm...that second drops a mother blank blank?

And one last thing, for some reason Iove the way that Scotish sounding guy says Megaphobia lol!

My favorite quote from the show was while talking about Oblivion, the announcer said something to the effect of just when you're thinking that this ride won't end you come to the station. They did have some great front of the train perspective on some of the coasters, I always like those shots. And Poseidon definately looks like the best water coaster in existence. Those are something I would like to see a lot more of.

Actually, Arrow did have input on the designing of Thunder Coaster,I felt the same way you are when I found out. Expedition G Force was not include or ready when ECC started there rating. You must remember that these shows are started much sooner than they first air, meaning the coasters are balloted much sooner. For the Ultimate Ten, Goliath was the only new coaster for 2000 that took part. Besides, I don't know about Oblivion :( , but I would still put a coaster like Nemesis over Expedition G Force.

The thing about these "Top 10" shows is that they will never please everyone. We all have our lists of favorites and rarely to they match what the shows feature. No one should feel offended if the show doesn't reflect thier favorites. And as it was already pointed out these shows are filmed at least one year in advance, so most 2001 coasters won't show up until later this year, probably when Discover Channel has their new Memorial Day shows.

In reality what these shows are designed to do is give the parks that are featured a little publicity. And while they feature enthusiasts they're geared towards getting more GP into the parks.

Take these shows with a large grain of salt and just enjoy them for the entertainment value - well, and to laugh at all the glaring mistakes made ;-)

2002 - the year of LoCoSuMo!!

Are you SURE that Arrow had a hand in Thundercoaster? I thought sure it was Allott & Lomax, who were not only the structural contractor on The Big One, but who also re-designed the first drop on The Big One a few years back...

Who doesn't actually know...

All I know is that the rolling stock on Thundercoaster is hideous. I can't exactly put my finger on what is so hideous about them, but they're just an eyesore in general.
