Epcot restaurants getting major overhaul

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Dining at Walt Disney World's Epcot theme park is about to get a makeover. Most of the popular internationally themed restaurants in Epcot's World Showcase area have begun to show their age, say some restaurant operators. Four major eateries will undergo overhauls in the next year -- those in the theme park's Italy, Japan, China and Mexico pavilions.

That's surprising about Alfredo's, both that they're getting the boot and that they make so much money. I wonder what the reason is. They have, hands down, the best Alfredo sauce I've ever had (they allegedly invented it). I hope the replacement is worthy. I wasn't that impressed with the wait staff though.
$20 million last year? Yes, I'd say that is quite a surprise.
$20 million last year?

That is like $55,000 ave/ day. They were good, but THAT good?

It does appear to be one of the bigger restaurants there, but I've only been in four or five of them (if you count the one in Mexico, which the boat ride goes around).
Think about it, you want to be ethnic but dont want to be "too ethnic" where are Americans going to go: of course the always filling, hard to ever screw up cooking, Italian joint! Maybe in a few years Mexican food will take over but for now Italian food remains America's favorite ethic food.

Not to be cynical, but its not far fetched to generate $20M when the average meal (decent) is approx $20-30 times a family of 4 times the thosands in traffic per year. Although the disney dining plan has really changed the economics where you can get away with an expensive full course mean for a lot less in the long run.

sorry.. meant to say millions in traffic per year.. Was thinking daily when I wrote thousands.. so back off you post correctors :-)
I too am surprised by the Italian decision. When I went there earlier this year, I ate at the Italy pavilion, and had the fettucini alfredo there. It was without doubt the BEST meal I had during the entire trip.
It's too bad Patina is taking over the Italian restaurant. I ate at a Patina restaurant at Downtown Disney in California last week and it was AWFUL.
