Epcot question

Africa is definately a continent. Also, if you really look at it, just after you go over the bridge right after China, there is an African Outpost area right there. It is really more like a small trading post type of set-up, but EPCOT may actually claim that as a "country"

You got me there, it is a continent.

I believe they sell african drums and walking sticks at the outpost if memory serves me right.

As far as building an entire african area, I think that animal kingdom has more than they could ever put in EPCOT.

I also find it interesting that they have not added anything new to the world showcase, but have added lots to the front of the park.

I have been to Disneyworld many times, and the world showcase is a section that I could do without due to the fact that there is a lack of attractions.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Wow, so much unused potential. I hope much of this stuff sees the light of day eventually. How long has it been since EPCOT changed anything major in World Showcase?

Agreed, I reall hope something of Mount Fuji is given some new life, it just looks awesome.

Rumor has it that africa is the next country to be added.

That's interesting. I though Africa was a continent?

Besides, if I recall correctly (I could be wrong) Morroco was the last country added to EPCOT and it is indeed in Africa.

Norway is actually the last country to be added to World Showcase when it opened in 1988. Morocco opened four years earlier in 1984. So since Norway, that's 19 years since the last country was added to Epcot!!! I definitely feel it's time for a new one!

The reason World Showcase hasnt grown in twenty years is actually multiple:

-No country or coroperation is currently willing to help front start up costs (Norway did this, and Im not sure but I bet Morocco may have too; also China recently financed a brand new film for their showcase)

-The thing continues to make money (resturants and shops) with no increase in spending.

-The demographic audience (adults) doesnt necissarly need any new attractions to return to the park/draw new customers (lets face it between all of the street shows, I think you could be at World Showcase for days before you saw every one of them)

-Future World, being a showplace of technology, ages rather quickly (Wonders of Life, Universe of Energy etc.) and after a while looks really bad, thus more money and time is spent keeping this area fresh. On the other hand, every country in World Showcase has had a stable government since it opened and the sterotypical symbols/culture of them hasnt changed either.

2022 Trips: WDW, Sea World San Diego & Orlando, CP, KI, BGW, Bay Beach, Canobie Lake, Universal Orlando

Hadn't they just added Sorin' to the Wold Showcase last year?

Top Three Parks: 1) Islands of Adventure 2) Bucsh Gardens Europe 3) Six Flags Magic Mountain
Soarin' was added to the Land pavillion, which is in the other side/Future World of EPCOT.
Ok?

From Google Earth the building is located inbetween Paris and Canada, so the enterance must from the Future area?

Here's another question. If America ever got really, really mad at one of the countries in the World Showcase, would we make them leave?

"Mr. Ambassador, you are no longer welcome on American soil. Please leave the country within 48 hours and take your pavilion with you."

^ Why does that make me think of Kim Jung Il, a hypohetical N. Korean pavilion, with a highly themed Zippin Pippin and Elvis playing "Hound Dog"? Good times! :)

1) Paris is a city, not a country
2) The United Kingdom pavilion is between Canada and France
3) The Land pavilion (which is where Soarin' is) is between Journey into Imagination and The Living Seas...the same place it's been for many, many years

^Sorry!

I took a second look and realized that building was the Millenium Pavilion. Not Sorin'.

I'm not even sure if the Soarin' building was built before the last Google Earth update of the Orlando area.

I didn't realize there was such a big chunk of land available in the World Showcase. Another country could easily fit there, but aside from that, nothing else looks big enough to accomodate another one without taking away huge parcels of space in between existing countries. And I'd hate to see those "green" areas disappear because that would cause countries to run into each other and take away from the effect of each.

Instead of seeing new countries built, I'd rather see current ones get the large rides that they deserve. The two rides I recall are the Small World rip-off in Mexico and the Scandanavian boat ride (complete with mural that depicts life in Norway as boats and huge polluting offshore oil rigs).

Time for a good idea...every once in awhile, I can surprise ya... ;)

Ya know how DAK has the booklets the kids fill up (with some kind of stamps, right?, heck if I know, LOL).

How about a fake PASSPORT for kids to take with them as they travel around the virtual world of EPCOT....that'd be pretty sweet, huh? Save your applause for the end, I might have another good idea sooner than you think....nah, probably not! :)

There are a surprising number of expansion pads in World Showcase. WDWMAGIC had a thread on this, and there was room for several new countries. They even had a nifty color-coded map.

And, 'gator, those marketing geniuses have beaten you to the punch.

"Here's another question. If America ever got really, really mad at one of the countries in the World Showcase, would we make them leave?"

Good stuff...I was there last week quite a few times and was joking about this.

Am I the only person who boycotts even Epcot's version of France? :) I want nothing to do with the fake version either.

I'm mid thirties and still choose World Showcase as my favorite night park in Orlando. The entertainment and atmosphere are the best. In fact, I might say that this is the only part of Orlando that has not worn out is welcome a bit...for me. While I still love it all...I prefer visiting the fake countries more than the rest. I guess I am officially old now! Fifteen years ago I thought World Showcase was a big waste of time.

Rob, I love that Mexican boat ride. Three years later, and I still find myself humming that cheesy melody everytime I see or hear the word "EPCOT." It is my dream to sit in a hot tub with women in full make-up and be serenaded by three guys with sombreros and guitars.
Guess what....it's going down for a 3 month rehab and will apparently re-open with the inclusion of "The Three Cabelleros" (sp?)

Donald duck is Mexican, apparently ;)

I saw them in an attraction at Tokyo Disneyland. It was quite entertaining :)
