They sure did advertise the heck out of it. With all the Monday night football stuff and the commercials.. and Tiger Woods... I guess 4% is pretty big when you get that many visitors.
Before Test Track, what was seriously in Epcot? Why would you go there for any reason unless you wanted to go to future world and check out the new gadgets or see some cool culture? Epcot really needs this, but they should add some stuff to the countries. I did see them building something behind Canada or France (can't remember). Does anyone know anything about this?

What you saw was construction of Soarin' for the Land pavilion. As for what to do pre-Test Track, there was tons to do, just not much for thrill fans. You had great slower attractions such as Universe of Energy, World of Motion, Spaceship Earth, and tons others. Despite the great rides at MGM, I still think Epcot is better. It just feels nicer and more magical.
I love EPCOT. I always have and I always will as long as the World Showcase sticks around in the form that we know it today.
What was seriously in Epcot?

An experience that blows away any coaster.
