Epcot adds barf bags to Mission: Space

Posted | Contributed by redman822

Earlier this month, Epcot workers began putting motion-sickness bags in some Mission: Space capsules as a test. It will be several weeks before Disney decides whether to make the bags standard equipment on the ride. A spokesperson says motion sickness is rare, but that the bags would prevent downtime caused by clean-up.

IMO, they should replace Innoventions in Anaheim with a MIssion Space--barf bags and all.

So does Mickey demonstrate the use of the bags in the training video? ;)

jf....haven't you heard, they added an 8th dwarf to demonstrate the use of a barf bag...his name....hurly! ;)

P.S. Will this increase the ride's uptime, or just the "upchuck-time"...:)

Does the ride go upsidedown?
yeah I have the same question as Jubilee because of the harnests?

nope, no upside down...just spins around....although everyone else tells me they didn't *notice* the spinning motion....very powerful, right from the start.

Oh cool, perhaps they'll *throw* him in when they make the sequal to Snow White (straight to video of course).

(by the way, I heard his name was Ralph) ;)

So when are they gonna hand out bags at the Teacups? I guess the teacups are easier to clean.

I can see their intention to increase hourly capacity. From what I remember during my one ride, there are three ride bays that house the centrifuges. Each bay holds a number of motion simulator vehicles on the ends of arms from the main centrifuge. A ride stoppage for a cleanup not only takes that particular cabin out of comission, but the whole ride bay itself. (The bays are very open, no attempt is made to hide the ride mechanism from you.) Even a few minutes for a cleanup can throw capacity off, which is exactly what happened to me. (Already loaded in, with control panel down, before CMs were alerted to the remains of someone's Coral Reef lunch.)

I liked the ride quite a bit. It is a one trick pony, but a damn good one.

Wow, I've never gotten sick on any rides ever, What's the difference between this motion simulator and any other spinny rides..It justs seems like your supposed to throw up at the end or something...Isn't it going to keep more riders off the ride? lol

I probably won't need them, but its nice to know their there. There have been many times when I almost barfed on rides, but this time I might not hold it back. Maybe next they'll add diapers for people who pee there pants on rides.
(At the Kennedy Space Center I went on a centrifuge ride, and they had barf bags. I didn't barf, but I'm sure some people did.)

So, you felt you needed to drag a five year old thread out just to mention you almost barfed on a ride?

Certain victory.
