Empty Park

last time when i went to Knotts before Christmas it was pretty empty there was no wait for anything except Ghostrider

I agree with Joey Stewart. Both Millennium Mania events (2000 and 2001) were excellent. It felt like we had the park to ourselves. I went on 9/14, and everything except MF was a walkon. Longest wait we had for MF was 15 minutes because they stopped all rides at 7 pm for a moment of silence for the 9/11 victims.

I was supposed to be at the 9/14 MM, but my flight was canceled... rescheduled the trip for the 1st weekwnd of Halloweekends. That Sunday, it rained all morning and the temp. was about 50... walkons to M. Force!!! I lost count after 15 consecutive laps.

The only problem is that the next time I go, the line will seem huge (even if it is only 15 minutes...)

In early October one year Giant Food Stores had their "Customer Appreciation Day" at Hersheypark ($40 worth of groceries would get you a $15 ticket to the park). If I remember correctly, the park was open to anyone, but you needed the coupon to get the special price. Anyway, it really wasn't that well publicized and it fell a weekend or two after the season had officially ended. Add onto that the fact that the morning started out very foggy and the sky looked threatening all day. Basically, the park seemed abandoned. I got there at 10am and rode everything I wanted to in about 3 1/2 hours... and that included a walking between Great Bear and Wildcat on opposite sides of the park at least twice.

I have been to Cedar Point a couple of times when almost all the rides were walkons.

For some reason, people fear rain...

Planned Parks for this summer: SFoGa, CP, SFWoA, SFGAm, SFKK, PKI, MA, SFStL, HW, KW. Is 10 enough?
Cornerstone Festival 2002... I will be there

Back in the 80's my dad's company would "rent out" Disneyland from 8:00 pm to 2:00 am or something like that. Everything in the park was walk on and you could do it all, sometimes with multiple rides. It was terrific.

I believe I am probably the only person here who's ridden THROUGH the station on DD at IOA. I've been to WA on a weekday in the off-season, where there were front-row walk-ons for Cheetah, and there were more people there than at IoA on that one cold rainy day in Winter. It's hard to find an O-Town park THAT deserted...
23 people at GLP (SFWoA) on opening day 1997. It was 30 some degrees. But i got on Mind Eraser dozens of times. Surprisingly that was the only time that i have ever gotten sick on a coaster.

I've been to SFA early in the season when everything was a walk on for the first several hours. Many rerides on SROS. And like Peabody I've ridden Roar in a downpour. Incredible ejector air in the back and all the rerides that you want.

I was also at Lakemonet on July 3, 2000 and the park was empty. Skyliner was running with 2-6 people most of the time. My daugheter experienced her first ride through that day. I was neat to watch her face first show fear when the train didn't stop, then show joy when she realized why.

For the serious park goer, it is pretty known, and judgeing by the responses, people do, here are the best times to go. I would gladly share this info, since it makes everybody happy, without the lines.

The days after Memorial Day, until mid June, minus the weekends. The wee prior to Labor Day weekend is a good time. Any daily operating day in September, minus Saturdays.

Cedar Point is great the Monday after opening weekend. Moreys Piers is great in June, except on Casino Picnic days. Just call ahead. Moreys is uncrowded in the fall, except the waterparks are closed. Except, usually one of their waterparks are open the first week of September.

During the week, Conneaut Lake, Lakemont, Del Grosso's, Dutch Wonderland, Waldameer, Hersheypark, and Knoebels are all open for the taking.

In Floriday, if you go during the week before Spring Breaks, like in January and Feb., the Busch and Universal Parks are light, as is Wet 'N' Wild if the forecast is under 75'

well, AJ, the reason Wet-n-Wild is slow when temps are below 75 is cause we KNOW that's "cold"...LOL.
SFA when there was supposed to be a big thunderstorm. Me(and my family) was hoping it was open. it was and it was real empty. walk-on, no lines. There were downsides to the day. Going down hills especially S:ROS the rain hurts your face. My first hypercoaster experience, i had to close my eyes and look down cause the rain hurt like a b****. Also me and my counsins as stupid as we are, rode on shipwreck falls a water ride that gets you soked. Also as people know that Batwing was closed, which is the reason we went instead of go to SFGAdv which is closer and where we usually go. Overall, it was awesome to go cause of no lines despite the down sides of going on a rainy day!

I'd Rather Be Riding Roller Coasters

I was at CP on sept. 13, 2001 and the park was empty. The main reason for this was because it was around 50 deg and it had been raining. I rode magnum in every row, on the same train, with out getting back in line. I rode power tower: turbo drop for about 15 min (don't remember the number) with out the restraints being opeaned. 18 rides on Raptor, mostly on the same train ( I had to get off to put some rain gear on and the removed a train from the track), 5 rides on Mantis (hurt too much and each lap was taking around 6 min each due to more people wanting to get on and only one train running) and best of all 20 rides on MF, all on the same train durning the rain and during the night. Also, I was at the park for only 4 hours.
The only time I goto Great Adventure is when it rains, this one time in late august 2000 I think, there had to be only 75 people there, I stayed on Robin for at least 8 times in the back row, that was the only time I threw up, and didn't goto school the next day.

Knotts was terribly empty last trip there in February. The problem was Ghostrider was down for the morning, and Supreme Scream wasn't open until 5:30 pm due to winds. Montezooma's Revenge wasn't open either. So much for small crowds...:(

Last summer, I went to Nagashima Spaland on a mega rainy day, and I am guessing there might have been 1000 people in this park. Considering it is the Cedar Point of Japan (as Peabody says), that is nothing. Granted, the rains were rough, but White Cyclone is a terror in the rain, and the occasional cloudbreaks gave way to a mighty 318 ft climb on SD2K!

Ah, Mark B, I was there on that "Millennium Rainia" night. MF in the pouring rain is something that everyone should try once (or twenty) times! Man, what a load of lunatics we must have looked like that night!

Without the chaindog, you'd never get up the lifthill...

In September I went to SFSTL and every ride was a walk on. I rode every ride at least twice!

Don't Look Down!

one day last year i went to sfgam and it was empty. i went on v2 15 times in one day as well as raging bull 20 times and all of the rest of the coasters. it was great i have pics of the empty lines. there was no one there. it was raining in the morning so everyone left, and then there was no lines when it cleared up.
On Columbus Day in '99 I went to Riverside (Pre-SFNE). The park was empty. 14 laps on the Mind Eraser (but they made me get off every time:(). I had a mad soar neck the next day in school. I really have mixed thoughts about the SFNE transformation because the day has gotten more crowded each year.
