This is a very tough question. On one hand, the Main Street Electrical Parade is the original and will always have a place in my heart for nostalgic reasons. There really was something special about sitting on Main Street, having all the lights go out, and hearing that digitized music. It certainly was a one-of-a-kind feeling. The floats were very cool and it was always a treat to watch a young child's face light up when one of the little "bugs" would roll up to them. Of course, the kids could have screamed in terror, too, but it was a fun parade with a very catchy soundtrack. When I first witnessed SpectroMagic back in 1993, I was very underwhelmed. The music sounded like a funeral dirge and it seemed there was just something lacking from the entire production. Fast forward a few years and a re-visit to Disney World. We wandered up to a spot in Frontierland at the last minute and decided to give it another chance. I am very glad we did. I know it was the same parade, but it seemed better. I even enjoyed the SpectroMagic theme song this time around. Maybe it's because I hadn't seen the MSEP for a while and couldn't compare it in my mind as well as I did on my first SM experience, but whatever the case, I enjoyed SpectroMagic immensely. Which one do I like better? It really is hard to say as both parades have impressive floats and both are spectacles you won't find at any Six Flags park. But if I had to choose, I'd probably go with the Main Street Electrical Parade. This really was a good question!
Of course, as far as night shows go, I'd have to take Las Vegas' Fremont Street Experience over either of the Disney parades.
Sincerely,
Jackie Gaughan
