We arrived at the park and had rock star parking which would be the theme of the event. There was a slight mist but that would just keep the crowds low throughout the day. To the left sat Superman mocking me with the fact that I would not be able to ride. On my last visit the parking lot was all tore up for superman. This time a beautiful B&M flyer stood there.
We got into the park and proceeded to Chiller. Robin was up and running, Batman’s train was nowhere in sight. We were the first people in the station and one of the few there at all. We got 5 rides on Robin without even leaving the platform, 4 in the same seat. We would have taken more but the intensity of the ride is just too much. Chris and Megan were doing great as ops and we would meet up with them a couple days later at PKD. Robin is launching faster this year, 72 instead of 65 and I must say it is incredibly noticeable. This thing has to come close to beating New Jersey’s G Force laws. Wow what a ride. I still stand by my assertion that that backwards zero-g roll is the most insane element there is. It viscously tries to hurl you out like no other ride. After 5 rides we could hardly stand up. What a way to start the invasion, and what a way for Robin to reassert itself as my favorite looper and favorite launch coaster.
Next up front seat ride on an empty B:TR. I never realized the front was so intense. The ride looks awful. There are a few purple splotches where they began to apply the new paint job and then stopped. Apparently they deciding against continuing the paint job and things will stay that way for a while.
After getting off of B:TR Nitro stood staring me in the face 230 feet in the air. Last time here Nitro was good but not amazing. This time however it blew me away. Forget floater, Nitro was providing ejector air and loads of it. Every hill threw me into the restraint and held me there. The helix was powerful and intense and the return hops we insane. My opinion of this ride improved by leaps and bounds.
We decided to make our way across the park and stopped in Toon Town along the way to get Tim his credit on Roadrunner. What a credit whore. ;)
We stopped at Skull Mountain on the way. The ride is just wrong. Imagine being a little kid, getting on a family ride in the back seat only to find some of the most viscous ejector air ever on the first drop. Holy cow I swear I felt a beam zoom over my head on that drop. With the lights on this ride wouldn’t be much. But in the dark it is a very good ride.
Onto Medusa, closed for technical problems. GASM was calling.
It was running very well and my head never hit the restraint. So intense, and to think Shockwave was a much better ride then GASM. 3 rides without leaving.
Rolling Thunder looks great, has some previously unknown air, but unfortunately it’s still Rotting Lumber. It practically grinds to a halt on the turnaround.
After getting off RT we walked by Viper and noticed a 2-foot section of track missing. Believe it or not I bet it would make the ride smoother.
Onto the Runaway Mine Train which following the rule of Skull Mountain is also just wrong. That bunny hill is too painful for words with those single position restraints. But oh what fun.
Lunch followed at Nathan’s and was way overpriced, but what do you expect.
Tim and I met up with Apollo Andy and his friend Rachel at 2. it’s always fun to meet buzzers and this was no exception.
We got our ride in on Medusa, and while good it is still know B:KF. B:KF is the best that B&M has to offer IMO.
We left the park at 7 and watched Superman testing for a while. Such a beautiful ride, and it SFOG’s is any indication it should be incredible.
What a great way to start the East Coast Invasion. I find it rather funny how GADV a park noted for its huge crowds has been a ghost town on both of my visits. Great luck on my part.
Tomorrow, Magnum What?
Edit: pictures are now uploading East Coast Invasion
