Check out this thread. I have the feeling this construction project may be pretty impressive. Maybe just a little bit. Um. Yeah.

Impressive.

And when I say impressive I'm talking about the amount of walking that would be involved.

Wow. Looks like it might be just a smidgen better than Dubai's current theme parks. ;)

Walking? Notice all the choo choo tracks?

Anyway, it certainly looks like some folks have WAY too much money.

Then again, if they throw together rides using old oil field equipment like this one, then it might not be too expensive after all: http://www.rcdb.com/ig2864.htm?picture=3 ;)

Wow, that's incredible. Something to rival (or surpass) DisneyWorld in scale. *** Edited 8/11/2006 3:40:15 PM UTC by P18***

Are they at a point where they're looking for investors/clearance/whatever? Or is this already a go?

^It seems as though a lot of it is already under construction. Not sure how much of it, though. It seems like the sort of thing that will certainly be done in phases.
Andy: I would imagine much of the money is coming from the Sultan. After all, he has spent a good 100+ Billion or something inconcievable like that on the various "Palm Islands". All this is part of his plan to turn the nation into resort Mecca before the Oil Dries up in a decade. *** Edited 8/11/2006 10:59:50 PM UTC by Peabody***

IIRC the government is in some way actually involved in this (supporting it, (?)helping fund it too perhaps(?)), so I think it's safe to say they have clearance. This is the same country that's BUILDING A PALM TREE SHAPED PENINSULA (link) that's oh, I dunno VISIBLE FROM SPACE. Point being I wouldn't put anything past the folks in Dubai. The existance of that palm tree makes me believe in this park, where in any other situation I would say, "Oh, cool model, never gonna happen." It should be very interesting watching the progress of the park, especially seeing how well they turn that model into reality and how long it takes them.

BBSPeed: That's what I was talking about. But that one (Palm Jazzera?) is already complete and they are building 3 more as we speak. They make that one look tiny. 5 years from now, the country will have expanded it's coastline 900%. No, that's not a typo!

Interesting. I think everyone must have the same thought upon seeing that model: "No way." If it happens that'll be quite amazing.

That peninsula doesn't look much like a palm tree to me, but it does look a whole lot like something else. Maybe I just have a dirty mind.
