Drop Zone

I noticed PKD is opening their DZ, their site says "largest drop ride in North America, a 305-foot tower....." but PKI's DZ is 315', according to their site.

Someone please explain how 305' is taller than 315'. Don't even get me started on the listed speeds for both rides, please!

PKD drops you from a higher height than PKI's, despite PKI's tower being taller.

PKD's tower, while only 305 ft, drop the carriage from 272 ft. PKI's while a greater 315ft, drops the carriage from 262 feet.

Maybe they meant they really meant *North* America.
Well, rollerjunkie, don't know bout you, but the last time i looked on a map, *north* was up, and Ohio's PKI is farther north than PKD. For me to get to PKD, I take 81 south, but for PKI, i just go west and a little north, so that still wouldn't work. BlitzJade has it right.

"Largest" is a pretty broad term. Perhaps they mean width of the tower? Who knows, it's just a silly marketting ploy anyway. The GP doesn't care.

"There's something very familiar about all this."

Well you may have a point there, the seating capacity on PKD's DZ is 56 passengers per cycle so in order to accomadate a larger seating ring they'd need to increase the diameter of the tower.

From 305ft or 315ft up it doesn't make much difference to me because either way it's gonna be one helluva great ride & I plan to be on it.

PKI's tower is not 315 ft, they are measuring to the top of the flagpole [on the tower].

Then in that case, Knott's Supreme Scream (312' without flagpole, 325' with it) and Over Texas' Superman Tower of Power (313' without flagpole, 325' with it) are both taller than PKI & PKD's Drop Zone towers.
You may have a point there but I believe they are measuring in terms of the tallest ride of it's kind in america.

DZ is an intamin gyro drop while supreme scream @ KBF or STOP @ SFOT are S&S space shot/turbo drop models.

There is somewhat of a difference between the two types,at least according to their respective manufacturer's.

Yea, but the top peice is about 50 feet. They say it's the largest drop ride. S&S's rides yank down, so therefore they are not freefalls.

Who cares how tall the actual towers are - the important stat is what height the vehicle drops from. Supreme Scream drops from 252 ft, Power Tower [CP] drops from 240 ft. Drop Zone [PKI] drops from 264 ft, and Drop Zone [PKD] will drop fom 272 ft.

Stats don't mean crap though. The Trocadero Big Drop was easily my favorite drop ride and it was only 125 ft. Such a shame that they removed it. Glad I actuall got to ride it because they disassembled it like a week after we rode it.

I wasn't trying to be rude, I got what he was saying, so I was playing back. Guess I should have added one of these ;)
