I'm kind of curious as to where you draw that conclusion from, because the gaming press doesn't see it that way at all. Dreamcast's user base is more than adequate to sustain the business for several years to come, and right now they're the only one's who have adequate product on the shelf for the holiday, on-line games and a lock on sports games in particular.
Every one gets all excited when a new system hits the streets (that is, if you can even find one), but fails to realize that without the killer games, only the hardcore gamers are going to buy the system. Just ask Nintendo... that phenomenon has haunted them from the lauch of N64.
Obviously the other player is Sony, but show me which stores have PS's, because I haven't seen one. Even if you do have one, the games out so far don't show what the hardware can do, so why buy an expensive box to play PS1 games? Add to that the well-covered developer complaints that it's hard to develop for, and you see a crisis in the making.
Dreamcast will do well this season, and the real threats to their well-being won't come until next year... from Microsoft and Nintendo.
