Dragster thrills guests over holiday weekend

Posted | Contributed by Gemini

Top Thrill Dragster reopened the evening of July 4 and remained opened through the holiday weekend. The ride had been out of operation for much of June.

Andy,

So consistent means closed every Wednesday (for starters) and then now closed almost every weekday?

I thought it meant that the ride was open more often than not. :-p

Top Thrill Dragster -- The most intense, unbelievable, and spectacular fifteen seconds on any coaster, anywhere, ever.

I'd like to thank everyone who did wait for TTD on Sunday. We got 4 rides on MF before 10AM, rode it a 5th time later in the afternoon, rode every ride (except TTD) in the park at least once, and left at 7pm because of the heat, and beat the traffic as well.

Hey, where's that smartass that insisted that we should all just give up cause it will never open this year?

Actually, he tipped his hat to CP...but being the Rhodes scholar that he is, he did this in a HW news thread instead of this one. Okayyyyyy.

CoastinCorey - I would have done the same thing. Most people here seem to be all against that amount of time, but atleast after waiting that long you got to ride. My 4 1/2hrs went to waste because they closed it for the night (which then turned out that it was closed till the 4th of July).

Wow. Not having heard much about X, I thought it was running much better than that. <removes foot from mouth>

I still don't understand The Giant Drop's post, though. What does a line on TTD have to do with a line on X?

Nothing, he just HAD to find a way to compare CP to SFMM :)

The lines weren't long at all. I just waited outside the fence of the ride for it to open for about 2 hours, then I waited inside the station of the ride for 5 1/2 hours for it to reopen. It was all just downtime.

Hey Corey, whould'nt Intamin be the "Chrysler" or "Ford" of Rollercoasters, seeing on how much downtime many of their rides have had? Ironically, Cadillac has had very few problems in recent years. My faith is coming back for GM.
If I'm not mistaken, Dragster valleyed a few times, didn't it? Maybe that's why they took the engine and Goodyear tires of to decrease weight. Just a thought.

You never know.
And another thing. Why are you arguing *again* like always about CP and SFMM??? SFMM is a long way from CP and Cedar Point is just adding to its 100+ year history of being a top park while SFMM is adding coasters just to say "we are the best". You wonder, how unique most of SFMM's rides are, they just threw in a Medusa clone. They have never done that except for Batman. They opened Scream! to say, we have 16 coasters too. SORRY I got off topic. Anyway, I expect CP got TTD's problems fixed. They are good at that, unlike another park I know ;).

You never know.

I didn't think it was possible for a coaster to valley unless it got stuck in a valley between two hills. Last time I checked, Dragster had only one drop...

How's the hang time at the top and the strap-in system?

I went in a similar coaster at Fujikyu Highland here in Japan, called Dodonpa. It shoots you from 0 to 192km/h (120mph) in 1.8 seconds, After a straight line, the rail dips a little giving you good hang time, then goes into a big banked curve rising maybe 30 meters (100 ft), then up and down a vertical camel hump about 40 meters high (130 ft), again giving you nice hang time.

The strap-in system was quite thorough, complete with shoulder, waist and ankle straps.

I thought Dodonpa only went 106.9 instead of 120 in 1.8 Bob Tremblay? Maybe i'm thinking of something else.

According to rcdb.com, that's right, Corey.

Apuna...-What about Deja Poo? Psyclone? Viper?

How did SFMM even enter the picture in this thread?

Apuna - TTD rolls back a lot in fact. It's perfectly normal. But it rarely ever happens when people are on it. Actually, this past Saturday, I got a train on video that rolled back. Pretty neat if you ask me.

I really got shafted! I was at the park the week until the forth. We left partway through the day. But i did get to see them put on the fifth cars. The were shipped in tuesday wile we were there.

They opened Scream! to say, we have 16 coasters too.

Funny, I thought the statement woulda been more like "We are sick and tired of being the Guinea Pig...New for this year, a plain ol-fashioned working coaster!"

I mean after X and Deja Vu, give 'em a break.

Corey, as Andy verified it, it must be true, I was just working with my memory, and what I remembered was that the top speed was 192km/h which I transfered into mph. The same applies for the heights mentionned, they are all estimations.

Anyways, I didn't like the straoing system. I understand the security aspect, but it was too much for, it didn't leave enough impression that something COULD go wrong.

And as for the ride, I thought the acceleration and speed impression would be stronger. I was a little dissapointed. But the air time was good, both with the first dip, and then with the camel hump.

What I don't like is how Six Flags Magic Mountain gets all these new rides to keep up with Cedar point, when the other six flags parks get nothing..
For the last time, SFMM is not adding new coasters to keep up with CP. They just have to keep up with the compeition in California.
