Dragster May Close for the Rest of Season

According to the Sandusky Register today, Top Thrill Dragster may close for the season and re-open next season, if it does not open by mid-July, according to Mr. Kinzel.

This time the problem seems to be contaminated oil in the hydraulic system. If the ride is closed the entire hydraulic system will be reworked.

Here is the link to the website.

I currently do not have a subscription to the Sandusky Register nor do I want to pay the price that they want just so I can read the entire article. But for those who do have the subscription at least now we have some proof to back up what is being said in this thread. Although it probably should be on the news portion instead.

For what it's worth, here's a link to the headline (as of 6/27, dragster was the top story). You need to be a subscriber to see the full story, however.

That's a tough decision to make. I'm sure CP is doing what it feels is in the best interest of the park, and to make sure they get the most from their investment.

(At a minimum, it'll stop all the "When's it gonna open" and "What's wrong with TTD?" threads. :))

Walt has a write-up on Virtual Midway on this, free of charge ;)

It would be greatly disappointing, yes, but I think it would be a wise step for the park if they can't get it running reliably. Like Kinzel said, they can't keep telling people it will open and then not open it.

I regret to inform you that Top Thrill Signature
is not currently in operation due to mechanical problems.

Wow, there is no way to sugar coat this. If it comes to closing the ride down then that is a disaster.

Yes it is a disaster but personally I will likely still go to Cedar Point anyway just because I love going there so much. There are only 3 other parks I enjoy as much as Cedar Point that I have been to. Those are Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Disneyland, and Holiday World (saved the best for last! ;) ). I personally hope that they work the kinks out of Top Thrill Dragster. But they have to do what they have to do.

We were given passes to get in the freeway line for top thrill dragster for 2003 at coastermania. if it does close for the season, i hope they will let us use them or exchange them for 2004.That would be very dissapointing to be given compensation that i couldnt even use.

When are they going to announce their decision on this - mid-July the article says?

There's no set date on when a decision would be made.
