Drachen Fire is no more

Hopefully this will settle the rumors swirling around DF.  Work started last week - the coaster is being dismantled.  To my knowledge, no one's quite sure yet if it will be relocated or stored.  It's a shame to see DF leave.  I was there on opening day April 4, 1992, and ended up riding DF hundreds of times in the following years.  I had the honor of working the coaster in the mid-90s.  I certainly had a close relationship with the ride, and I'll always look back at her as a work of art.  But try not to get caught up in the mystique - DF was a rough ride, and if it were open today, it would still be plagued by low ridership.  It suffered from a horrible location, headbanging, and a bad reputation.  Before rumors begin on a replacement, the land occupied by DF really can't be used for a whole lot.  It backs right up to Kingsmill, so anything noisy is out of the question.  Access to the location is hidden, and almost certainly contributed to DF's demise.  I have been told that a train station in that area is not possible  - apparently the grade is too steep to resume a stopped train full of guests.  It would make sense for BGW to expand the Black Forest picnic area into DF's plot, but we'll have to wait and see I suppose.  :-(

Sounds like good news for a park who MAY have purchased it... or a relief for BGW to get it off of their shoulders and clear up the space for something else.

However, do you have pictoral proof, or do we gotta go on word alone? Can anybody else confirm this, or is it still just another rumor swirling around regarding the endless subject of Drachen Fire??

I think a moment of silence is in order.....

Ol' Drachen Fire may not have been our favorite, but was always in our thoughts......we will miss the old girl.

I agree.  Until we see some proof in the way of photos or official word, how do we know this isn't another in a long lines of rumors about the fate of DF?
Unfortunately, I have no hard evidence to show you - I'm not in the Williamsburg area.  Perhaps a local could swing by and look for cranes, etc.  In the past, construction equipment was staged in the employee's parking lot.  Now that the leaves are off the trees, the lift and wraparound should be visible.  I can't imagine too much work going on this week though, with the holidays and all.  I have some local friends going by there in the next few days for 100% confirmation, but as of now, I'll have to offer you 99% confirmation.
you said construction equipment has been sighted, maybe there trying to fix it for 2002! Just a thought.
I never said equipment had been sighted - this is how rumors get started!  I said someone should drive by and LOOK for construction equipment.  I only have knowledge of work being done - not proof.
You are so optomistic.

Is a tomato a fruit or a vegetable?
If they are selling it, how much are they selling it for ?
I am not believing it untill I see a picture
okay....im not sure about all this, but i tell you what i will do to hopefully settle this.....i only live 30 min from BGW, so maybe in the next couple days i can swing by the park....you can get a good view of most of the coasters in the winter along US Rt 60....so let me see what i can do....

I remember seeing it this year going down to the park. It looked so forgotten as we rode passed on the train.

I would hate to see it go:(
