Dorney seeks zoning variance for LIM-powered coaster

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Last week, the South Whitehall park got township approval for minor zoning changes that will allow it to build a coaster. The ride would be 184 feet tall and would be powered by a linear induction motor, a type of motor used in rapid-transit trains and conveyor belts as well as amusement rides. A theory making the rounds of fan-operated Web sites says Cedar Fair is going to move a coaster called Steel Venom to Dorney from Geauga Lake, a Cleveland-area park.

It's not like it's never happened before.

I always thought venom was liquid.

Maybe they could call it "Bethlehem Steel" Venom. Then again, the Lehigh Valley's new AAA baseball team is going to be called the Iron Pigs. Maybe they could call it that.

You guys are so funny. I think they may just drop the steel and just call it venom. Superman: Ultimate Escape was actually my first impulse ever. its good that it is moving a couple miles closer to me. I wonder if Dominator is next...hahaha..
I rode SV, but never with the break on. Did I miss much? I plan on getting to Dorney in 2008.
^^ That one they definitely would have to rename, delan.

They could play on the area's Pennsylvania Dutch heritage and call the LIM the "Whitehall Wenom." (Guess you have to be here to get it.)
