Dorney Park submits plan for 138-foot-high amusement ride

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Dorney Park's parent corporation, Cedar Fair L.P., submitted a plan to South Whitehall Township for a new 138-foot-high amusement ride. But the plan doesn't mention what kind of a ride it is, and the park's general manager, Jason McClure, said his lips are sealed.

Sounds like an overnighter.

Hi

They should market the fact that the amusement park is not crowded. The only problem being if the marketing works too well it will no longer be true LOL

I'm not staying overnight 70 minutes away.

Here's another thing to consider when deciding to put capital into a combo amusement park and waterpark: People spend a lot more money on the dry side of a park than they do in the wet areas.

I think a combination of a lack of available land, and the desire to spread out the crowds a bit are the leading forces in these additions to the lower part of Dorney Park. I don't see Dorney Park actually growing in size anytime soon, so the best shot Cedar Fair has at increasing revenues is to get people out of the water park for longer.

LOL. As a rule, I will not correct that mistake, because it was funny, and the replies wouldn't make sense.

And Tek, The Urban Dictionary has really come in handy with all of these acronyms "floating" around on CoasterBuzz.

I tried to look up AFR after seing Tek's post, as it was foreign to me. No luck. Then I tried the Urban Dictionary mentioned above. Bingo. Thanks for the tip, Travis. And thanks for the visual, Tek!

The amusement park rises bold and stark..kids are huddled on the beach in a mist

Wow, with my disdain for lines.. I may have to get up to Dorney....

To be fair, once the water park closed, every line I found was at least 30-45 minutes. But between 1:30-6 (when the wet side closed) we hit every coaster at least once and took a leisurely lunch in the middle of it.

I don't think it will help attendance either. Voodoo/Possessed rarely has a line when it is running except on those peak days like Haunt nights or summer weekends and I agree with the other posts suggesting they expand the water park and that's with 3 seasons of being the newest coaster. It was the same with Hydra when that was the newest coaster. The last addition to WWK was Aqua Racer in 2007 (and Torpedo Tubes were removed then). Even on slow days, like a September weekday last year, were coaster trains going out with half a dozen riders at the most while WWK slides had 20 - 30 minute waits. Other than the mistake of going to Haunt on Halloween weekend in 2009 and a Sunday in August 2006, I can't remember ever waiting in a coaster line longer than 20 minutes and this past season over around 12 trips, I don't think I waited more than 5 - 10 minutes for a coaster.

I don't know if they still have the Flying Super Saturator for sale or they scrapped it but I always felt that would be a great addition for Dorney if they put it next to or in the waterpark since Rollersoaker at Hershey is so popular and it would give Dorney a coaster that would regularly have a line (besides Wild Mouse because of the horrible way they run it).

Of course the lines for the water slides are going to be longer than any coaster. What is the capacity of a waterslide compaired to a coaster?

I think it was the begining of aug when I was last there, and the lines for the coasters were fairly long. I waited over 30 min for hydra.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
