Dorney Park in Allentown PA

I visited Dorney Park in Allentown PA for the first time and I'd have to say that I was pleased with amount of excellent rides in the small place. However the park was bigger that I expected (alot bigger). If you haven't been there you should give it a visit.

DARIAN

I was there before the addition of Talon and wasn't that impressed - maybe because it was a rainy day, or maybe because I thought Hercules was the biggest disappointment since the AMC Pacer, who knows. Talon must have helped the park out significantly, though. Dorney, to me, seemed to have more of a "state fair" feeling about it - I really can't put my finger on it (but if I could, I'd have to wash it).

I just moved to Allentown this past winter. I wasn't too familiar with Dorney. I read up all winter long and soon we were getting our season passes processed.

We've been there 8 times already this season. I haven't found one thing to really complain about with the park yet. I really like it. I don't get the "state fair" feeling at all - I've been to parks that feel like a glorified state fair (I'll spare mentioning names here) and Dorney doesn't even come close to having that feel. It is bigger than I expected but it's hardly a big park. In fact it's almost a perfect size, especially for the area.

I think it feels almost exactly like it should considering it's history. It feels like a park with a stong local history that recently got some big bucks put into it thanks to the backing of a large company. Almost the best of both worlds.

I do imagine Talon has added a lot to the park. It has great visual impact, it has thinned the lines for the other coasters and it is a great additional "big ride" to offset Steel Force.

All in all I've been very pleased with my Dorney season pass purchase.

I love Dorney also. It scared me how much the front section of the park looked like Cedar Point last year. They've got the carousel right after the ticket booths just like CP, and instead of Raptor on your left, you've got Talon on your right. Then you see the Classic Cars restaurant just like CP. Laser is an extremely strong Schwartzkop coaster. Steel Force is great for the novice hypercoaster rider, as well as for the experienced rider. In fact, if you have your mouth open in the helix turnaround over the big pond, you can replicate that Millennium Force bug swallow that everyone loves so much. Just ask my friend Go With Gravity about that one. Fear Factor be damned.

Yeah, I visited Dorney Parl once, last summer. I really loved all the coasters, but I do aggree, Hercules was kind of a disappointment. I loved the Thuderhawk tho. Not to mention Steel Fore and Talon.

I think Dorney Park is great, and I'll definitely be back once I've made trips to all the other parks in the area. (GreatAdv, Knoebles, Hershey, KWood...)

Was there last year. I too, was impressed with the park. Talon was great and Thunderhawk/Laser was a huge surprise, IMO. Definitely would like to visit again...

A nice park, it just needs a good woodie to complement Thunderhawk...

I'm just itchin to get up to Dorney. I've got my season pass but haven't had the chance to get up there and use it.

I think the best thing about Dorney is knowing that it's owned by Cedar Fair. I have full faith in them that Dorney will do nothing but improve over the long term.

Talon was a fantastic addition to the park. It alone makes a trip there worth it.

I was told by my good friend Steve from RRC (an otherwise sensible guy, must like junk mail too...;)) that we're not supposed to mention how good Dorney is since it'll only fill the park up with crowds....

Talon ranks right up there, as does Laser, and ThunderHawk.....shame about Herc - funny show, awful coaster....

I just went to Dorney and posted a trip report. It's got a nice assortment of coasters and rides. But I think it could have a few more coasters.

80 coasters and soon to be more
Life is a roller coaster Ride It!

I guess that's what I didn't like about it (but then again that was before Talon). By the way, where did they put Talon? I've heard the design was similar to Raptor at Cedar Point (I have no idea if this is true). I'm sure I would formulate a different opinion if I revisited - too many buzzers have approved of Dorney to discount a future trip there.
LASER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love Dorneypark! I have been visiting ever since Steelforce opened in 1997, and have made a visit once a year ever since. When I first started to go there the park was preety small with not too many rides compared to other parks , and 90% of all the pavment was ashfault, also to get to certan areas you had to walk all around town etc, but I belive in 2000 or 1999 they did alot of revamping in the park ,by repaving there paths with cament, adding dominator in 1999, fixing up exsiting older rides, making shortcuts in the park ,adding some new rides ,and in 2001 they toped it off with talon, oh yea cant forget some new shops aswell, and now they added metor in 2002. No matter what it is Dorneypark always esxcites me year after year, and ever since the intorduction of talon in 2001, they have been subjected to actaly getting large crowds! I remember at one point when everything was walk ons , and I cant forget that Dorneypark never really has high ticket prices ,and i ove there preseason tickets which are real cheap under $20. Maybe that will change in the future, but I will always remain faitfull to a great park Like Dorney. The only complaint is the waterpark which is always very crowded, and a bit outdated, but im sure they are planing somthing for the waterpark for next season
For the season pass do you get all cedar fair parks?
