Dorney Park 6/5/08, Opposite Day

Associated parks:
None

I wanted to get to the park at opening, but didn't get there until 10:30. Usually at Dorney, you won't find many if any rides closed, short rides on the ride side and a crowded waterpark. That's why I named the thread opposite day, everything was different yesterday.

The lot wasn't that crowded but there were a lot of buses

Since the waterpark doesn't open until 11:00, I went to Talon. The ride greeter said it was 45 minutes. I turned right around and went to Hydra, a train was stuck on the lift. Dominator was also closed with the Space Shot side at the top of the tower.

Thunder Creek Mountain had no one in line, got soaked as always. Thunderhawk was running 1 train, 10 minute wait. Steel Force's line was down the stairs but no switchbacks were used to it was a little over 10 minutes with 2 trains. Voodoo was closed and never opened when I was there. Laser had around a 20 - 25 minute wait. I didn't feel like waiting.

The midways were packed with kids, it appeared that many buses dropped of kids and left which is why the park was packed but the lot didn't look very crowded.

I went back to Hydra, 2 switchbacks full, probably close to 30 minutes. Forget it, Wild Mouse looked to be 40+ minutes, Talon had 3 switchbacks full also around 30 minutes or so.

The waterpark was open and appeared to be dead. What was going on? Normally it's the ride side that is empty while the waterpark is packed. I gave up on coasters and went into Wildwater Kingdom.

All the slides were either walk ons or a 2 - 3 minute wait at the most. Riptide Run was still closed. I never expected the waterpark to be so empty.

After around 15 slides in an hour and a half I went back into the park. Thunder Canyon always has a huge wait when the park is even somewhat crowded. Today, it was a walk on. I really don't like all those waterfalls as you get way too soaked but today it didn't matter.

Hydra's line was just past the stairs, about a 10 minute wait. Everyone was lined up for row 2 thinking it was the first row. I went past all of them and walked onto the front row while everyone looked confused.

Talon had just over a 10 minute wait, the line was past the stairs and so many people were turning around thinking it was a long line. It was compared to a normal day at Dorney but 10 minutes isn't bad at all for a B&M invert.

It was 2:00 so I had to leave for work. It was much more crowded than I expected except in the waterpark. *** Edited 6/7/2008 3:45:50 AM UTC by YoshiFan***

Huh, interesting! Glad I didn't go to Dorney today after all. I was gonna hit Voodoo one more time for sh**s and giggles after an exhausting day in Manhattan (sidenote, I saw a man dressed up in a business suit wearing The Joker makeup on the ferry back to Staten Island). YoshiFan, where are you from? Obviously close by! :) Kinda cool to have a fellow Buzzer in the area.

I live in suburban Philadelphia, near Willow Grove. I made a mistake writing "today" in the TR, the trip was yesterday.
