Dorney Park 10-06-01

My son and I arrived at Dorney at 10:55am, and it had just got done raining. There were maybe 40 cars in the lot. It was a little chilly, but other than that perfect. We stopped to get our picture taken, and straight to the Talon we went.

We arrived with only one rides wait for the front seat. Gotta love those kinds of days. Going up the lift hill seemed a little faster to me than other B&M's I have been on. The signs are a great addition to the lift hill( I don't know why any other park hasn't done that before.) Talon is a good inverted coaster. Its the first inverted coaster I liked riding in the back more than the front. It made the ride so much more powerful. I like how the inversions and turns fuse together, so that there isn't really any dead time on the track. The corkscrew in the helix is a good finale. I give it an 8 out of 10.

After 5 runs on Talon(2 up front and 3 in the back,) we headed to the wild mouse since there wasn't any wait. It was better this year than last. They stopped using some of the brakes altogether which was nice to see. Last year it was braked way too much. It gets a 6 out of 10 because of the improvement.

Next up Hercules. Every year that I come to Dorney it gets braked more. They even had one on the drop this year. I don't remember that there last year. It was even slower. Damn, it used to be a great. I rode it in its opening season, and it was my favorite woodie back then. It had so much more power thru the whole ride. Now its the first drop(which isn't that exciting anymore,) and the rest is just hum drum. Remove the brakes and it would be a solid 7. Since that isn't the case It only gets a 5 out of 10. I was thinking 4 but I remember what it used to be like. ;)

After Hercules we rode some flat rides, and tried out both sides of Dominator. I love those S&S Towers. Stan is the man. I need to Ride Hypersonic, but thats off the topic. ;) Next stop Thunderhawk.

I have loved this one since I was 11. Still provides an exhilerating, at times painful ride. I just wish it was longer, and they didn't have that brake on the camel back hills towards the end. For its height its a great ride. 7 out of 10.

After the Thunderhawk we darted straight for Steel Force. Still no waits. The platform was empty when we arrived, and there was only one train operating. After riding Millenium Force, and Superman the train on Steel Force go so slow up the lift hill. Its not a bad thing(I remember my first ride on Magnum, and how it built up the suspense of what lies ahead.) I am just not used to it. ;) I love Morgan's layouts, and this coaster deserves the acclaim it has received. I know its up there on my list(If I had one.) 9 out of 10.

After riding Steel Force a few times(didn't even count 12. 13.) ;) we b lined it to "The Laser" (Dr. evil rubbing off on me.) I love classic Schwarzkopf's coasters. The man was way ahead of his time. I love the layout, the loops and the intensity. The pacing is perfect. Too bad its so short. Just have to ride it a few times :) 7 out of 10.

After we got our fill of "The Laser" it was off to check out the shops, and ride all the flat rides we had missed. Got a set of those Coaster Cards(Couldn't resist I like collectibles,) and my son opted for a Talon Tshirt. It was about 2 pm by this time and it really started to get crowded. The weather had cleared up nicely. We went for our rerides on the coasters(Except Hercules and Mouse), Hang time, Dominator, and a few other Flat rides. We decided to call it a day at 4pm. They reduces their rate at that time and people were pouring in compared to earlier in the day. I like getting a full days worth of rides in 5 hours, and back at home before dark. Would have liked a night ride on Talon.

i was there on Saturday too!

we got to the park around 10:01 adn it was virtually EMPTY! after we went through guest relations to get our Cedar Point passes processed for our ticket, we went STRAIGHT to TALON! great ride.. improved as the day went on! Talon changed my INVERTED FAVORITES list all together.... before it was

1) Alpengiest, 2)Top Gun: Jet Coaster 3) Raptor/Great Bear

then it was now....

1) Top Gun: Jet Coaster 2)Talon and 3) Alpengiest!!!!!! WOW! Talon is a GREAT ride packed into such a short amount of space.. great pacing as stated before...

The power shot on Dominator is WAAAAAY better then Power Tower will ever begin to be (even though it was great in 98)

Steel Froce was rather sloooooooooooooooooow...

love Magnum better, and taht's coming from a HUGE Millennium Force fan who still has issues w/ Magnum... but other then that... great day at Dorney, Nice employees... then we left for Knoebels for PPP which was awesome!
