Dorney officially announces Meteor

Dorney Park is getting a Zamperla Hawk 48 dubbed Meteor. Riders will sit 3 abreast as they are thrusted 65 feet into the air only to be inverted with nothing between their feet and the sky.

I love that ride. Along with Power Surge, I think Zamperla has two of the cooler "flat" rides available. I'm interested to see what the lighting package looks like compared to Kennywood's.

Why did Dorney lie to everyone and tell them that the ride would be the only one of its kind in the states? Obviously Kennywood has a Hawk 48 and so does SFMW for starters. That's why everyone thought Alex and others were wrong, even though the description screamed Hawk 48.

The word "definitely" is definitely the most misspelled word on the buzz.

They probably meant this was the first Hawk with this theme. SFMW's Hawk is themed like two swinging hammerhead sharks, while Kennywood's Hawk is themed like, well, a giant Kennywood ad...
It's still lame of them to bill it as the first of it's kind in the states based on a cosmetic change... The ad industry has to work with what they have, I suppose.

I am wondering if they will bring their paratrooper back this year as well.

The hawk is an okay ride, but none of the pendulum rides compare to a Gas-Powered Eyerly Loop O PLane. That thing would pull 3.5 G's.

djansi, no, they clearly stated that it would be the first ride of its kind in the states. PR people....

Thank god they finally announced it.  I've been called and emailing them for the past 3 months asking them when they're gonna announce it and each time the Guest Relations guy or whatever said either "In a few weeks" or "The time is coming."  It was getting really annoying.

Glenn, you try too hard. Just be patient. Great for Dorney. Who cares if the said it was the first and it's not. Look at Six Flags marketing, now that is something to complain about.

The Paratrooper site was going to be replaced with an CHAOS the deal was almost closed from what I heard but before it was the little insident on the CHAOS happened. So you know what happened to that deal. The paratrooper is rumored to move to Knoebel this year to replace their old one which is even older than dorneys. As for the paratrooper site I can bet that it will be filled with a flat ride next year or soon....To think about it a S&S Thrill Shot would fit in their nicely but the chances of that happening becuase of what happened at CP and the chances of it getting aproved is even rarer.

I personally would love to see any KMG ride (they all rock) there.

I am liking this alot!!!

P>It's just like a Skymaster, or an old Loop-o-Plane, with no floor or enclosure(like a B&M invert)... So yeah, it stops upside down, but the restraints hold you in tight, as opposed to the Skymaster and Loop-o-Plane which have a lap bar inside of an enclosed cabin. Plus the seating is three across, and the rows face each other(except for the front and back rows which face outwards, of course.) /P>

Okay, I'll bite, what's so special about this ride? When I saw it, it just looked like a floorless "Kamikazee" that you can find at practically any carnival. While the carnie rides are fun (I once rode one where the op gave us 30+ consecutive loops :)), this doesnt seem like it's going to add *too* much.

I mean its not radical like a Top Scan or somethin'....

The one at Kennywood is very fun and exciteing.  When I first saw that one I thought it looked lame but 1 ride on it changed my mind.  I think it would be a great addition to any park.

I am, however, a little disappointed that it isn't something New and unique.  I live in between both Kennywood and Dorney so to me this new ride is not a really big deal.

I bet it wasn't nearly as annoying as being nagged for three months by some impatient "enthusiast" about a ride that he won't even be able to go on for another 3 months!

Leave 'em alone.
