Yep. I do that too, though I probably haven't poached in years.

My other trick is for premium rows (front on a 4wide in particular) : line up in row 2 and wait for a triple to queue up. Then once you're through the gates, move up to the open seat in front.

Being a coaster enthusiast can be a lonely hobby sometimes. :)

I've never poached before. I didn't even know that it was a thing. Maybe I'll have to try it next time I don't have front-of-the-line access.
