Dollywood Sept. 11

On Screamscape I noticed an ad that states that on September 11, 2004 Dollywood will host "A Night of Thunder in the Dark" with 2 hours of exclusive ride time on Thunderhead. Is there any specific reason why Dollywood chose September 11 for the ERT?

Probably because it's a Saturday.

Don't you hate that? :)

Good question: I doubt it was an oversight on behalf of the park. Could be a tribute thing.
Having gone to dollywood this summer: i can say this. it is one of the most beautifully decked out parks i've ever been to.
and it's also on a ....
never mind, been said...
I was just about to post that this was a really dumb trip report ...

... until I noticed it's not Sept. 11 yet. I amazed myself at my own stupidity on that one and figured I'd share =)

It's also on the day of the biggest car show in Pigeon Forge. So, either learn the backroads or be prepared to spend hours in traffic going virtually NOWHERE like I did back in April during the "smaller" car show.....
I think it'll be a long time (if ever) to get that association out of our minds. But, there will a younger generation in the future who won't have experienced that event, and so it will become just another day to them. *** Edited 7/28/2004 9:16:30 PM UTC by Intamin Fan***
Well the heres how things went. We (RideWorld) asked Dollywood to host an event. They asked us to give them some dates as to when the event should be, and well, the park picked Sept. 11th. As far as the car show, well most people I have talked to who are going to this event are staying in Gatlinburg and we are letting one of the locals lead us through the back roads to the park. Apparently during April it only took about 25 min (don't quote me on that as I don't remember for certain) to make it to the park using that route. I hope to see you all there for the 2 hours of night time ERT on Thunderhead. *** Edited 7/28/2004 10:35:14 PM UTC by Mark Burleson***
Also note several people from GCII will be present at the event. RideWorld/ThrillRide will also present the park with a "#1 Wooden Coaster" plaque to be placed in TH's station.

Looks to be a great event!

Thunderhead is my number one woodie, but it seems to me that RideWorld is jumping the gun. Shouldn't they wait for the ride to top a major poll before giving out a plaque?
They don't see any other woody possibly beating it I guess..Probably won't either.

Well... I do think personally this is a little early myself, but I have been told by a countless number of people that at night this coaster is perfect. I guess I'll see for myself this fall. Even still this should be one heck of an event, even it is only half as good as Phoenix, and I guess thats all that really matters.

THAT was the smaller car show????? Geez! I was there as well and we got stuck in all that traffic. It was worth it though. I loved the park (and especially Thunderhead and TN Tornado). I remember we were going to Ober Gatlinburg but never made it because of the traffic.

I can't imagine the traffic getting anymore congested or the car shows getting anymore larger than what I saw last April.......WOW!

The backroads do make the difference. :-)

Yes, Thunderhead is as SWEET as apple pie during the night.......;-)
