I read this elsewhere a few days ago and didn't see it in the news forum yet, so please move it there Jeff, if you see it as newsworthy:
http://news.yahoo.com/gay-couple-asked-reverse-shirt-dollywood-200120079.html
"A lesbian couple is asking for changes at Dollywood after an employee asked one of the women to turn her T-shirt reading "marriage is so gay" inside-out to avoid offending others. ... The two said they felt they needed to file a complaint with Dollywood because they believed it was important to stand up for their beliefs in marriage equality."
Since there are alot of gay posters on here, I was wondering what everyone's opinion was on this story? Is this really a case of discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people as they imply - or rather just an employee reading the shirt and interpreting it as offensive (not as a statement for gay marriage)?
Seems to me that they recognized calling something gay can be derogatory and reacted. A teenager won't see the irony in a gay woman wearing it.
^ That's how I saw it as well. As a minority (in more ways than one) I'm all for justice. But the message on this shirt can be interpreted in different ways. Plus, Pigeon Forge is in a relatively 'homogenous' part of the country, no need to kick the ant hill. Baby steps...

Occasionally, I feel like I'm in a BYOB gay bar....but I love it... ;)
Oh, and back to topic - calling anything "gay" is a bad plan...nothing good comes from using ANY term in a derogatory fashion...my $.02. ;)
