Dollywood construction status and your impressions

I will remind you that SDC does not own ANY of its land but only leases it. This is a true contact the park if you don't believe me. (I say this because alot of people don't believe me on that when i tell them.)While at the ACE Spring Conference I had the pleasure of talking with one of the head board members of the then SDC INC. What I was told is that currently SDC leases approx 800 acres and has a nearly limitless amount of land in which they could lease in the future. It is true though that that the turain is getting more difficult to deal with but not impossible. When Wildfire was built it was the begining of an entire new section of the park. you will notice from there it is just a gradual slope all the way to Table Rock Lake. Yes that is ALL theirs!

That is the way the park is expanding as the land gets very easy to deal with in that region. I talked to him and he said eventually they want to have a Hotel there on table Rock but not until they have expanded futher that way which he said could take a good 20 years. DollyWood is very much in the same boat although they own their land. They own something like 600 acres I believe. Also SDC is trying to buy their land. All that land is still owned by the people who own the cave and they don't want to sell the cave so SDC is trying to buy the land only above the cave and further down from them but they are still not wanting to sell. I have a feeling SDC will get it someday. But you know I think this is a sign. Wood will be coming to SDC! AND I CAN'T WAIT FOR THUNDERHEAD! I will be there opening day! w00t!

THE SCARIEST PART OF THE RIDE IS THE LIFT HILL!

I'm pretty sure that Dollywood owns there Location wrather than leasing it. I think the Rebel Railroad people pretty much purchased the entire Property back in '61.

I can also confirm that SDC leases it's property wrather than owning it. Another thing right out of Paton's Great Book.

You've mentioned Crystal Paton's Great Book several times... could you describe it? I can't seem to find mention of it on the web or amazon.
SDC leases from C of O the area right above Marvel cave but has a huge buffer of land around the park.
My point is that the park is ok land wise and did not have to acquire Branson USA because SDC was out of land. TNcoasterman clarified that he was talking about workable land and has a point there.
Back on topic now; really looking forward to seeing the layout for Thunderhead.

Jim "less trusthworthy because I play ride op on the weekends" Wolgamuth

There is still quite a bit of land back behind Lost River and Geyser Gulch area. All that is back there is the train ride and the new area/rides can be incorporated into the "view" there at SDC

The Story of Silver Dollar City: By Crystal Payton

The Book goes in to depth about the history of SDC and covers quite a bit on the basic Philosophy of the Park & Company in general. It also has some great Pictures of the park in the Early 60's and 70's.

(Don't look for anything about Celebration City, Wildfire or anything of that sort. The last update to it was in 1999.)

I seem to recall hearing that the purchase of Branson USA was less to take out the competition and more to keep Six Flags from buying it.

Could be wrong, though.

Touchè, teacher, touchè.

I know it was to keep away competition in Branson, and i only heard Six Flags mentioned once.
