DOJ reviewing Cedar Fair and Six Flags merger

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Six Flags Entertainment and Cedar Fair said they have received a request for additional information and documents from the U.S. Department of Justice, which is reviewing a merger of the two companies. The second request from DOJ in relation to the merger comes at a time when deals in the U.S. are facing anti-trust scrutiny from regulators, as well as consumer interest groups.

The quote is nice, but again I contend that you don't really know how someone will behave until they are in THE seat. I have hired people who looked great on paper, performed extremely well in an interview, and then bombed in the role. Being given the title of CEO doesn't mean you will be good in the role.

Of note, the average tenure of a CEO right now is 5-7 years. Eisner and Iger are anomalies.

Whats the average tenure of the SEAS CEO's, 5-7 months? Also an anomaly.

are in THE seat

It was meant to be ironic in hindsight, but I do find it funny he was respected for doing a good job with passes, and obv none customer facing, just like happens with Disney CEOs, the difference with Iger is that running ABC meant he had to balance alot, more then if he was just say CFO.

It’s funny he was recognized for passes and these low cost season passes and especially meal plans are the reason the parks are being run in the current budget cutting mode IMO.

The basis for giving away the gate with a season pass was always to get people to buy food, and now they’re giving that away.

They have dug themselves in quite a hole with these cheap passes. If they raise the price they lose customers but at the current rate they aren’t that profitable

Well, I voted against the merger with my 10 shares of SIX that are down 40% since I bought them. I bought them as we were emerging from the pandemic thinking, this can only go up from here! I should have known better.

Thank you for doing your civic duty.

Somehow I missed this part, but apparently the new company is going to be called "CopperSteel Holding Company." Is that just a legalese thing to get them through the merger, or is the parent company really going to be called that?

I know better than to buy individual stocks, but the pandemic was obviously not great for many folks' judgement.
