Does RCT work on Windows XP?!?!(help)

I just brought home my brand new gateway computer... So i pop in the Rct disk, and it fully installed. I go to play it, and as soon as it start up, it gives that access violation message and shuts down! I cant even go into anything, but it DOES show the main screen to RCT. Please, HELP!! thank you.
