Does Cp need to update there coaster line up?

Ok...somebody here needs a reality check! Let's go over Cedar Point's current coaster line-up shall we:

1) World's First GIGA-Coaster. Broke 10 world records when it debuted and is still the only GIGA in North America. Also, voted number two steel coaster in the world...

2) Magnum, The Numbe one coaster in the world. The world's first hyper. Enough said

3) Raptor. Outstanding Inverted coaster. First to have the cobra roll installed on an inverted. Was the tallest inverted, I believe, when debuted. The number five coaster in the world.

4) Mantis. Outstanding stand-up. Another record-breaker when it debuted in 1996.

5) Mean Streak. While some consider it rough, it is a beauty. Debuted as a major record-breaker as well.

6) Gemini. One of only two steel track, wooden structure coasters made by Arrow, I believe. A record-breaker when it was built.

7) Corkscrew. Arrow's invention, which was the world's first triple looping corkscrew.

8) Cedar Creek Mine Ride. An Arrow train coaster.

9) Iron Dragon. Suspended coaster designed for fun rather than thrills.

10) Wildcat. Enough said

11) Disaster Transport. One of the ONLY STILL Existing bobsled coasters around.

12/13) Jr. Gemini/ Woodstock Express..Great Junior Coasters for coaster-lovers in training...

14)Blue Streak. A Classic wooden out and back...

So, this idea of Cedar Point needed to "update" their coaster line-up is a bunch of crap! Cedar Point has the number ONE, TWO, and FIVE ranked steel coasters in the world..AND was voted BEST AMUSEMENT PARK IN THE WORLD for the 3rd year in a row...

With regards to the "new coasters"...
CP does not need a floorless mainly becuase SFWOA has one. As my good friend told me...they are both in the same market, why would you want to slam the same market with the same-type of coasters?

The 4th Dimension is new, and is not even build yet. Why woudl Cedar Point want one of those?

Flying. Just what Cedar Point needs a coaster designed by Vekoma, so it can break down all the time. I'll wait for the B/M version thank you...

Launched. What is the point?

Cedar Point IS the competition of the amusement park industry. Cedar Point SETS the benchmarks and standards for how the rest of the industry needs to do business. Cedar Point IS the Best because it KNOWS what it is doing. The "king" of the amusement park industry will also be the ROLLER COASTER, and I will take the Point's collection of coasters over anything else any day of the week....

mikey :)
P.S. Who's to say that 2002 will not bring another new type of coaster....;)

They need an intense giga.

Mikey,Just in case this was directed at me,To the Gp who does not live in Ohio,Cp would cost to much for alot of the general population to visit.Do you think alot of the GP can afford to travel out to CP just because it is a great park?Do you think me or the GP are going to stop going to SF because they aren't ran the way CP is? That is ludacriss!! I have to support my family first and foremost.I have to say until i saw a coaster show on TLC,i never even heard of CP.Cp is a big player in the eyes of enthusiasts. They are the ones who would go far and wide to visit CP and once again, they do not make up most of the population in the U.S .

I have never said that CP does not know what they are doing and,i never said that they didn't have world class coasters. All i am saying is,as with anything else, the bottom line is money.I am not the type to start a flame war by no means but,i think sometimes people need to look at the big picture and venture out of the enthusiasts world to get it.

I would have to disagree with your statement Olympic. "Cedar Point IS the competition of the amusement park industry. You have a preference to CP just like most people on here. Its probably your home park. I noticed on your track record that CP is one of the only parks you have listed on there. I think you need to go to other parks and see what rides they have before you say your statements.

I believe that a few years ago CP set the standards for rollercoasters. Not the park on the whole. Sure CP is great park, but there are many Amusement parks I can think of(I won't mention names)that has a much better atmosphere than CP does. As far as coasters I don't no longer feel that CP is setting a standard. There are so many parks with new unique installations that CP doesn't have. Hypersonic, 4th Dimension, Floorless, Tilt coasters, and Flying coasters come to mind. Or were all these coasters secretly designed by CP? :) I know being a phanatic of a park is one thing, but thinking irrationally because you want so bad for your park to be No 1 is another. Remember whos is rated #1 by the rest of the industry? It isn't CP anymore. Sorry to hurt your feelings, but that #1 spot is IOA. There is alot more to amusement parks than coasters, and thats what alot of people forget on here. I am a big coaster fan, and those are mainly what attract me to a certain park. What makes me return to the park is the rest of the package. I am not arguing that CP isn't a great park. Thats why I have been there 3 times, and I live about 8 hours away from there. CP really has alot to live up to as far as setting standards. Will they be able to introduce something that stands out above the rest of the industry? I am sure that they'll pull something off. If they don't I would be sad.
Can u name one park with all of those coasters(floorless, 4d[theres only 1 4d and its not built yet,] tilt [there arent any of these outyet,] and flying[there are only 2 of these.]) If you ask me they are leading all other parks in ride technology with one of the only two giga coasters, and everything else.

With MF being the only of it's exsistence in the U.S.,PKD would also be a leader in technology being the only one to have Hypersonic??That isn't a SF or CF park so,i guess CP isn't the only one with an original sitting on it's property.I agree CP has a great line up and variety but, alot of parks have similar styles of coasters and the only thing i am seriosuly missing out on there is MF.They are the trendsetters but, they don't stand alone in that area anymore.

"First Second Generation Standup?"

Whoa whoa, slow down! Togo stand ups were around before it, and so were Intamin and Arrow stand-ups. And then, for the B&M generation of stand-ups, the first was Iron Wolf. And the number of inversions a coaster has doesn't make it the first of a new generation.

Cyclops. 1900 feet of CCI goodness. *** This post was edited by TrBiggar on 6/30/2001. ***
i personally think that cedar point should add some more up to date extreme flat rides such as frisbee, top spin, jump, etc. Of course some new coasters would be nice but it's not like they *need* them even though i am 100 percent sure that there will be many more on the way in the next few years.
TrBiggar, I believe that Mantis was the first standup to include the new-style trains. Plus, it was the first one longer than ~2000 feet. It was the first of the 'stand-up giants'. That may be what Zero-G meant when he said that it was the first second-generation stand-up. True, TOGO had the original stand-up coaster. But I think that he was talking about B&M.

Life's too short to mind,
Just keep on with the sweet up and down
Iron Wolf, Vortex, and Vortex were all made with the 4-across B&M trains before Mantis and IMO Iron Wolf is much better and more intense the the "second generation" B&M stand-ups if that's what you want to call it. Chang and Mantis were dull and boring layouts, right up there with Batman Knight Flight, I think. I do believe that every stand-up ever made was longer than 2000'.

And IMO, Batman:The Ride blows Raptor out of the sky!!! Did the members of the poll ever ride Montu, Fire Dragon, or Alpengeist? I highly doubt it. Most likely they hadn't ridden any hyper outside of CP and Steel Phantom either. Oh well, it doesn't mean more than a piece of toilet paper and at least I got to see some portions of my favorite coasters on the TV specials from the severely biased poll. Mean Streak being anywhere near the Top 25 proves that.

Sigh.

It's hard enough to do everything in one day at CP now. Why does everyone always want more. Can we just for once enjoy what we have?
