It was called XK1 or something like that. It was rocket ships that went in the air and they would rotate upside down. I asked a friend of mine and he said that there never was a ride like that at Knott's. But if I remember correctly it was. It was in the area where they have the Sea Dragon. Does anyone know what I'm talking about. If so what happened to that ride?
The XK-1 "Intamin Solo-Flyer" was removed in late 1997/early 1998 for Supreme Scream. The park's 325 FT "Turbo Drop" tower currently sits in XK-1's past location. XK-1 had a lot of mechanical problems and not too many people liked the ride.
I loved that ride! It was so much fun to see how long it would let you stay upside down...I think it was about 5 seconds. It was one of the best flat rides ever. Of course, Supreme Scream is a better ride, but they could have put it elsewhere/moved Xk-1. I really miss it...Thanks for bringing it up, now I have to go cry :(
They took out the Skyhawk (Skychicken) a few years back as well. The ride was ok, but experienced a lot of mechanical problems. It also was pretty bad on the capacity side of things. ----------------- Yeeee Haaawwww!
XK1 is the same as Skyhawk which is the same as PKI's Flight Commander. Flight Commander was the one which someone fell out, allegedly due to rider drunkeness. PGA still had one last spring. ----------------- Scott W. Short mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org http://www.midwestcoastercentral.com
On my 8th grade trip in 1997 some friends and I rode it. It was ok. The hangtime when you went upside down was a little scary since all you saw was concrete. Good thing that there was lots of padding. The restraints consisted of both an OTSR and lapbar.
Is that like the Looping Starship at SFGAdv? If it is, I love those ride so much. I could hang upside down all day if I could. :) ----------------- Nitro: The Most Explosive Coaster on the Planet explodes at Six Flags Great Adventure in 2001.
Yes, Flight Commander (mentioned above). It sat on one of the original foundations for the Intamin Giant Double Wheel loading area. ------------- My score on PCW's Scooby Doo Haunted Mansion: 2370! www.angelfire.com/oh4/tk173
